Job Description

When meeting us, you’ll quickly discover that the best thing about the ABI is the people.  We’re hugely proud that 100% of our people feel colleagues within their team respect each other. If that sounds like your kind of culture, read on to find out how you can join us.

We are open to flexible, part time and/or job share working – please let us know if this would be your preference. We’re currently working in a hybrid way with at least 40% of time in the office.

We’re looking for a Policy Adviser, Long-Term Savings Policy. In this unique role, you will work with senior officials at regulators and member firms, driving policy for investment platforms. You will develop a deep understanding of the platform markets and the pensions and retail investments they offer, and of topical investment issues more generally, including ESG, stewardship and productive finance.

We welcome people who are new to insurance (most of us were when we joined!) – as well as those with experience. Have a read of our key facts document if you would like to know more about the industry we work in.

What’s the job?

  • Formulate and communicate persuasive policy initiatives supported by robust evidence, that address legislative and regulatory issues and enhance the reputation of the industry.

  • Lead on and develop a specialism in specific policy areas, especially those related to investment platforms, retail investments and pension investments.

  • Work with the rest of the team on other policy issues including workplace pensions, data and digital developments in long term savings, supporting customers to make decisions in long-term savings, and later life.

  • Build effective relationships with people at all levels in current and prospective member firms and build influential relationships with key industry stakeholders

  • Provide support to ABI committees and working groups, from Board Committees looking at policy strategy for long term savings, to technical groups discussing the detail of a policy or project.

What skills do you need?

  • Experience dealing with complex policy issues – you can get up to speed quickly with the technical detail. Even better if you have knowledge of one of the following markets: retail investments, investment platforms, or pension investments.

  • An analytical mind – you use evidence to back up your decisions.

  • Excellent communication and relationship management skills – you know how to approach stakeholders of all levels and backgrounds.

  • Demonstrable lobbying skills – you can influence and persuade senior people in member firms, Government, regulators and elsewhere.

  • Effective presentation skills – you know how to tailor you message to your audience.

Throughout the interview and assessment process, we will be looking for you to demonstrate the ABI’s values; We are Brave; We take Ownership; We are Appreciative; We are Human and We are Curious.
