About DVFriends
Delaware Valley Friends School is a national leader educating bright students in grades 1-12 who have reading, writing, and other related learning differences. The school attracts students from across the Philadelphia area and is in the midst of several years of program expansion and enrollment growth. Students receive a comprehensive, evidence-based, college preparatory curriculum, individualized instruction, cutting-edge assistive technologies, and successful college placement, with an emphasis on metacognition and self-advocacy within a community based on Friends (Quaker) values.
About you and the role
The Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging leads and supports strategic initiatives at DV that foster a welcoming, inclusive, and equitable school environment. This role collaborates across the community to develop programs, policies, and practices that support belonging, honor diversity, and foster equity, ensuring all students, faculty, and staff are valued, respected, and affirmed.
Here’s what you’ll do:
Provide strategic DEIB leadership based on the school’s mission, serving as a member of the senior administrative team, the Student Support Team, the Board DEIJ committee, and other key committees of the school.
Support the various students and adult diversity groups in the school and provide regular feedback from these groups to the senior administration
Initiate activities to help all members of the community feel fully part of school life
Partner with the other administrators and faculty to problem solve around issues as they arise, striving to build unity around diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging
Support various operational departments and programs to foster equity and belonging
Develop periodic workshops, bring in outside speakers/consultants, and serve as a resource for faculty/staff, trustees, parents, and administrators about DEIB-related issues
Coordinate and communicate with school administration, faculty & parents regarding diversity-related concerns & events
Liaise with outside diversity practitioners and play an active role in local and national equity-focused groups and organizations
Collaboratively lead the school’s efforts to attract diverse faculty, staff, and families
Teach one to two classes based on the Director’s expertise, interests, and capacity
Attend required events as referenced in the Faculty & Staff Handbook
Engage in ongoing professional development relevant to the position
Other duties as assigned by the Head of School
Support the School and its mission, maintaining a high degree of professionalism at all times
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree preferred
At least five years of teaching, diversity practitioner, or related experience is required
A proven record of successful collaboration with a wide range of people and a demonstrated ability to think strategically about initiatives and programming
High demonstrated emotional intelligence and the ability to be both a leader and collaborator
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
A high degree of emotional intelligence, flexibility, and strong relational and interpersonal skills
Familiarity with and appreciation for Quaker principles
