We are currently seeking a skilled Database Management Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for managing and maintaining our database systems, as well as building new data products and supporting colleagues in developing others. In addition, a key part of this role is to provide support and development for data, reporting and analysis services to our user community, both external and internal.

Together with shared responsibility for the ongoing development of existing data services and new projects working alongside other members of the Data and Analytics team, you will have primary responsibility for maintaining and monitoring our databases. 2 Working closely with our analysts you will work to understand the business and customer needs and how these can be met. You will have the confidence to challenge others, influence the decisions being taken and experience in managing ambiguity and conflicting priorities while setting expectations of the achievable outcomes. As well as your subject matter expertise in this role you will ideally have experience of working with global organisations in ESG, Government, Regulatory or the Financial Markets industry. The work will be based in London.

Core Responsibilities

Technology Support

  • Provide business as usual support for key databases and data systems, including: o Reporting and assessment tool o Data portal

  • Organisational dashboards

  • Data Lake

  • Dashboards

  • BI Reporting and Data tools for our internal analyst community.

  • Manage and maintain database systems on Azure to ensure optimal performance, security and reliability.

  • Collaborate with colleagues to understand data access needs and implement appropriate solutions.

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation on user access policies and procedures.

  • Monitor and audit user access and permissions, addressing any irregularities or security breaches.

  • Provide support and training to users on database utilization best practices.

Catalogue our Data Estate

  • Contribute to the documentation our data estate including the development and sharing of metadata for business and solutions teams to ensure the best use of our data assets.

  • Provide project support and subject matter expertise as needed.

Data Connectivity

  • Provide the technical means and understanding to allow PRI to integrate different data sources into data lakes, reporting schemas and new applications.

    Reports and Datasets

  • Build business reports, data tools and associated datasets that that enable end users and customers to self-serve their reporting needs using analysis tools such as Dash Enterprise, PowerBI and MS Excel.

Data Governance, Management and Innovation:

  • Collaborate with colleagues in the Data & Analytics team, internal domain experts and third parties to:

  • Establish a data roadmap and logical model for our data that includes an interoperable data ecosystem for our many data sources and allows for easy integration of new sources.

  • Be an advocate for innovative technologies (such as big data, AI and graph databases)

Training

  • Provide occasional training and coaching to users in reporting, data manipulation, aggregation, and visualisation.

  • Promote best practises in use of data and tools.

Person Specification

  • Demonstrable experience of working with SQL databases, writing complex queries and designing and building efficient ETL processes is essential.

  • Knowledge of databases in the Cloud including good practice around maintenance, monitoring, logging and tuning.

  • Experience of constructing and tuning highly complex SQL queries

  • Experience working on data platform migrations to the cloud is desirable.

  • Microsoft Azure experience is highly desirable, but other cloud technology experience will be considered.

  • Understanding of data governance and security best-practice, with an appreciation of data privacy, data retention and user access policies.

  • You will have worked in a full-stack environment and have an appreciation of data manipulation and integration technologies; ideally having direct development experience (Python, R and VBA, APIs, etc.).

  • You will have worked on at least a couple of complex data projects ideally for small to medium sized companies.

  • Experience of working in an Agile/Scrum environment is desirable.

  • A demonstrable interest of broader technology trends such as graph databases, AI and innovative cloud technologies is an advantage.

  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written; experienced in translating technical topics for a business audience concisely.
