Reporting to: Head of Finance and Performance

Working with: Fractional CIO

Location of work: Flexible. This post holder can be based at home, in our London office or a hybrid approach working from home with office visits as required, we continue to seek to enable flexible and remote working. The role will involve some irregular travel throughout England and Scotland.

Contract type: Ideally full-time, 35 hours per week, although part time / flexible hours may be considered. The role may require occasional evening and weekend work.

Salary: £56,500

BACKGROUND

Magic Breakfast is a registered charity providing healthy breakfasts to children and young people in the UK who arrive at school too hungry to learn, and expert support to their schools. Over 200,000 children and young people are on roll at Primary, Secondary, ASL / Special Educational Needs Schools and Pupil Referral Units that the charity works with, in disadvantaged areas of Scotland and England. Providing breakfast ensures that children start their school day with the energy and nutrition they need to be able to make the most of their morning lessons.  Magic Breakfast also undertakes research, and campaigns for long-term solutions to end hunger as a barrier to learning.  

This is an exciting time at Magic Breakfast as we continue to meet the challenge of ending morning hunger for now, and for good. To enable us to continue our important work and grow the charity, we are seeking a Head of Technology and Transformation to support the Technology and Transformation Team.

 JOB PURPOSE

Magic Breakfast’s mission is to end child morning hunger in the UK now and for good. As Head of Technology & Transformation, you will be responsible for ensuring the successful delivery of key strategic projects and initiatives for Magic Breakfast. These include, but not limited to IT delivery of systems, software and processes, and other cross organisation projects as well as the operational support of IT vendors and applications used within Magic Breakfast.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

·       Lead and develop a team of 4 within the Technology and Transformation team and a member of the leaders across Magic Breakfast as part of the Core Management Group (CMG)

·       Develop and maintain a broad understanding of IT & Data use and needs through relationships with a broad network of data and technology advocates from across the organisation.

·       Manage and update as necessary IT Policies and procedures.

·       Be the lead for Magic Breakfast to achieve relevant ISO accreditation.

·     Lead the delivery of key strategic projects for the organisation including:

·       Development and launch of a Data Warehouse

·       IT owner for web development and other digital first initiatives.

·       Support the IT infrastructure for other developments across Magic Breakfast.

·       Development of Salesforce functionality to support the organisational needs.

·       Alongside Fractional CIO review and draft the Technology and Data Strategy to support the growth and digital first approach as Magic Breakfast continues its Digital Transformation.

·       To support the delivery of projects across Magic Breakfast to ensure consistent project management and best practice, including:

·       managing the portfolio of strategic change projects and lead regular reviews with project managers and project leads.

·       implementing best practice and creating a project management center of excellence.

·       supporting business planning for annual portfolio of strategic change projects and budgeting.

·       ensuring that project implementation takes a people-centered approach including training, internal communications, and changes to policies and procedures.

·       supporting the production of management information and reporting / dashboards for Project Boards and CMG.

·       managing the organisation wide project / change Risk Register.

·       Advocate for focus on data management best practice and lead on the development and implementation of data standards across the business.

·       Manage IT vendor relationships with the support of the IT Manager within the team.

·       Manage the budget and financial performance of the Technology and Transformation team.

·       Lead, and be core to, the center of excellence for automation, data reporting and dashboards and implement through the use of appropriate tools such as Microsoft’s Power Platform.

·       Manage and update the Tech policies of Magic Breakfast.

GENERAL

·       Contribute to team meetings, sharing best practice and supporting team members where necessary.

·       Help to maintain a positive working environment; keeping the vision of Magic Breakfast at the heart of everything we do.

·       Managing the operational and investment budgets of the Technology & Transformation team. Uphold a culture that keeps children and young people at the heart and encourages openness, collaboration, bravery, compassion, and a solutions-focused approach.

·       Work collaboratively across the organisation more widely to build good working relations across the organisation and provide ad-hoc support to other teams and members of staff.

·       Adhere to all Magic Breakfast policies and procedures.

·       Ensure that all activity is compliant with current legislation, GDPR and child safeguarding requirements.

·       Participate in occasional work-related events at external venues and perform support related activities as required be willing to undertake occasional work outside of regular office hours and UK travel.

CORE MANAGEMENT GROUP

·       Support other team members who have responsibilities supporting Magic Breakfast projects and initiatives in line with Magic Breakfast’s values, supporting and leading as an indirect lead in line with Magic Breakfast’s policies and procedures.

·       Actively participate in Core Management group ensuring it is a collaborative, productive and accountable team.

·       Deputise for the relevant Senior Leadership Team member as required and requested.

·       Identify and where appropriate lead on partnerships and collaborations that further Magic Breakfast’s mission and purpose.

·       Take responsibility for the operationalisation of Magic Breakfast’s policies and practice in relation to safeguarding, risk management, and GDPR across the Finance & Performance team.

REQUIRED SKILS

·       Strong written and verbal communication.

·       Experience leading a team of IT professionals.

·       Track record of successful delivery of IT change.

·       Ability to manage to tight deadlines and re-prioritise in a dynamic working environment.

·       Experience of data warehouse build and maintenance and use of relational database tools such as Business Intelligence.
