Job Description

URA is transitioning from small company, working solely on R&D to an SME who is commercialising our products.  We are therefore introducing digitisation of our stores, processes and equipment.

We have purchased Odoo, an ERP system, to support all aspects of company activity.  This project is to work with engineers to get the projects, and our workshop and stores equipment, into the new system, understanding the project processes, equipment and parts, and inputting this information into the new software.

Success at the end of the project will be that the multitude of excel spreadsheets can be archived, as all systems, items and processes are active in Odoo, and the engineers understand how to use the new system creating efficiency and future proofing our activities.

Skills you will gain from this project:

·        Experience with “front-line” work with significant responsibilities in a space industry SME at the forefront of space technology developments in the UK.

·        Knowledge of EN9100 and ISO9001 certification, potentially being involved in an audit (depending on the timing of the start of the placement)

·        Improve interpersonal and team-working skills with a young, multicultural, multi-skilled and passionate team.

·        Improve problem solving skills in short timescales.

·        Knowledge of different space systems: Spaceflight, space propulsion: thrusters, electronics, fluidics, diagnostics… space mechanisms, exploration and interplanetary missions, etc.

·        Knowledge of the end to end processes od designing and developing propulsion systems for flight.

Knowledge of the complexity of the systems, sub-systems and components that go into making a functional spacecraft.

Applicant Specification: Minimum requirements:

  • Confident with new IT systems, such as Odoo

  • Good communication skills

  • Some engineering knowledge to be able to communicate with engineers working on the projects

  • Right to work in the UK.

     Desirable requirements:

  • Experience of improving processes or innovating new solutions.

Process details:

  • 8 weeks minimum fixed term contract to be agreed with successful candidate. Longer duration internship available.

  • In-person Induction Event to be held on [date], and an in-person/hybrid Showcase Event to be held at the [place/date]

  • 5 days holiday to be taken during the placement

How we work:

URA Thrusters is a UK SME spun-out from the AVS group, and created in 2019.

URA’s vision is to democratise the use of water and sustainable propellants for in-space logistics, mobility and transportation, by developing and commercialising chemical and electric propulsion systems and full plug-and-play propulsion architectures.

To achieve this URA is developing one of the widest catalogues of novel in-space propulsion solutions in the world, ranging from electrolysed water chemical propulsion to water electro-thermal and electrodeless propulsion systems. These solutions will enable the use of water for all spacecraft propulsion needs, and a simpler route to in-situ resource utilization for propellant manufacture.

URA Thrusters is part of the Westcott Space Cluster, in the Westcott Venture Park, near Aylesbury, Bicester and Oxford, with large offices and MAIT workshops in the Westcott Innovation Centre, and a dedicated test facility (TESTA) with five vacuum chambers for propulsion testing activities.
