Job Description

Can you extract meaning and create visibility of customer wants, needs and experiences and looking for an opportunity to shape a business based on your expertise? Well, we are looking for you to fill a newly created Junior Analytics Engineer role.

We are RCNi, part of the Royal College of Nursing Group. We aim to provide nursing professionals worldwide with easy access to our peer-reviewed content (journals, learning and more), news, opinion, jobs, events, and awards. RCNi is a small organisation with big aspirations.

This role is an integral part of the Strategy and Insight team at RCNi, supporting the market analyst in developing the data extraction, cleansing and shaping that forms our data reporting, insight and modelling. This work is key to helping business colleagues by informing data driven decisions.

Specific aims:

  • Extracting, cleansing and deduplicating data from multiple sources; help align systems and implement best practice

·       Use different tools to extract data from datasets and databases

·       Identifying duplicated rows based on business needs

·       Use multiples sources of data to find and evaluate where gaps in data sets could be filled

·       Clearly identify incorrect data and work with stakeholders to improve or find agile workarounds

  • Maintained standardised reports meeting business requirements

·       Identify sources of data quality improvements or improvements in data extraction and ensure these are transferable, if applicable, to other data sets and reports

·       Provide consistent sources of relevant data for stakeholders across disparate systems

  • Perform data analysis using SQL

·       Be confident in the use of SQL joins to query multiple tables

·       Be able to use functions and subqueries to analyse and interpret data from multiple sources

·       Competent in the use of regular expressions/string functions for pattern matching

  • Build and maintain well-documented data pipelines

·       Use data integration tools to build data pipelines from external sources of data to internal databases

·       Use code to query APIs and extract and load data

·       Maintain existing scripts or modify prebuilt connectors

·       Clearly document how these pipelines work and are maintained

  • Create dashboards and visualisations using BI tools

·       Work closely with stakeholders to gather and clarify requirements for the solutions and document

·       Develop and maintain reports / dashboards and data models

·       Develop a testing regime for all solutions, optimising each report for performance and quality over time

  • Provide support to market analyst and other business stakeholders

·       Undertake ad-hoc requests for data within an agreed timescale.

·       Investigate data quality issues with external suppliers and report on areas of improvement

·       Conduct feasibility analysis of data for new requests or project ideas

  • Work closely with colleagues to answer business performance questions

·       Understand key team work processes and understand areas of performance improvement

·       Identify key relevant, specific, measurable metrics for individuals and teams

  • Communicating technical information to both technical and business audiences

·       Plan, develop and maintain operational guidance, data documentation and help files, if applicable.

·       Consult with stakeholders both verbally and in writing to assist in implementing updates to documentation or processes
