Job Description

If you have the strategic skills and have a passion to help action on the climate crisis, please consider joining our Board of expert, knowledgeable and committed trustees and help guide Ashden, the UK’s leading climate solutions charity.

You can find the Person specification here.

Ashden rewards and supports climate innovators to thrive, and tells their inspirational stories to decision-makers, investors and the next generation of innovators to catalyse transformational and equitable climate action.

Clean energy is at the core of our work. We seek out, showcase, support and scale up the work of clean energy innovators across the UK and in the Global South - not just to cut carbon emissions but because of the transformative effect access to clean energy has on lives and livelihoods.

Our ground-breaking and rapidly expanding Let’s Go Zero campaign is targeting full decarbonisation of UK schools by 2030. We also support communities addressing climate change through natural climate solutions, and run learning networks in the UK to develop and share best practice in community-engaged mitigation and adaptation. At the heart of all of this are the internationally-renowned, annual Ashden Awards, showcasing the best of climate innovation and driving investment into emerging clean energy and other enterprises.

We now have openings for two trustees to join our highly capable board. As well as governing the charity, successful applicants will join the other trustees in bringing powerful insights and extensive connections to maximise the systemic impact of our work.

With a couple of current trustees reaching the end of their terms and moving on, we seek two new board members who can meet this specification, especially those who can bring insights in policy and influencing, strategic communications and working with the education sector.

We are an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from everyone regardless of their race, sex, disability, religion/belief, sexual orientation or age.

These are unpaid, voluntary positions.

Term of office: can be up to three terms of three years, renewed after each three-year term.

Time commitment: four half day board meetings per year in Central London, ideally at least two in-person, plus annual strategy planning away day.  Reading of the papers for these meetings requires two to three hours.  We expect Trustees to attend at least one of Ashden’s evening events in the year and to be able to attend extra meetings as and when needed.
