Job Description

Summary

We are the public body that looks after England’s historic environment. We champion historic places, helping people understand, value and care for them.

Historic England have a fantastic opportunity for you to become our Stakeholder Engagement Adviser.

National salary range: £36,603 - £36,800 per annum

Greater London + salary range: £39,408 - £42,380 per annum

You will be responsible for the building and maintaining of key stakeholder relationships at local level which increase the public value of Historic England’s work. Through influence and advocacy, you will help convince local decision-makers of the value of the historic environment and its potential to deliver benefits for the community.  The role supports local communities to act to shape the development of historic places and to save and re-use heritage at risk. Key audiences are local authorities, developers, the local heritage sector and community groups.

What you will be doing

Working with the Regional Director, you will identify and manage relationships with key local influencers and delivery agents, including those outside local authorities and the heritage sector, encourage them to champion Historic England’s work, develop collaborative projects  and inspire them to look after and invest in the historic environment.

You will identify opportunities to build new relationships with the potential to increase the public value and impact of Historic England’s work, representing the organisation with a wide variety of stakeholders, and be an effective advocate for the benefits of the historic environment for local communities.

The role will provide advice and help all teams in the local office on how to achieve greater impact by working with local stakeholders. You will work with Policy and Evidence and Public Engagement to gather and promulgate compelling evidence for the value of the historic environment within the region and contribute evidence and case studies to national initiatives.

You will work with the Analytics team in Policy and Evidence to develop and report on measures of the impact of local stakeholder engagement. and the Sector Resilience and Skills team in Policy and Evidence to increase  the skills and knowledge of those involved in the management of the historic environment, including  local historic environment professionals and local community groups, by identifying needs and delivering local workshops, training and ad hoc assistance.

What we are looking for

  • Extensive and demonstrable experience of developing and leading stakeholder engagement – strategic overview

  • Track record of building and maintaining relationships with range of organisations

  • Ability to work across teams as the role requires regional delivery as a whole

  • Support to senior management in strategic meeting cycle (e.g. Local Authority Chief executives)

  • Written, oral communication

  • Excellent negotiation, influencing and advocacy skills
