Job Description

Project Description:

  • A combination/selection from:

    • Creating a basic simulation of the performance of an optical system

    • Designing a concept opto-mechanical solution

    • Sourcing COTS components and building a prototype.

    • Developing a data analysis pipeline to extract information from gathered data.

    • You'll work as part of a broader team, taking ownership of key tasks. You'll attend team meetings, and learn about other aspects of the business.

Applicant Specification:

  • Academic: Working towards a bachelors or masters in physics or engineering.

  • An interest in space sustainability, and solving the problem of space debris.

  • Applicant must be motivated, a fast-learner, and willing to work as part of a fast-paced start-up environment.

  • Ideally, some experience in optical systems (cameras, telescopes etc), but not strictly necessary.

  • CAD experience (Solidworks, Fusion 360) would be helpful, and/or Python and computer vision. Machine learning experience is also beneficial.

  • A successful applicant need not be experienced in all of the above. They may prefer to focus on one or two of the elements.

Minimum requirements:

  • Passion and enthusiasm

  • Willingness to learn and adapt as projects change

Process details:

  • 8 weeks minimum fixed term contract to be agreed with successful candidate

  • In-person Induction Event to be held (date TBC), and an in-person/hybrid Showcase Event to be held via SPIN

  • 5 days holiday to be taken during the placement
