Job Description

We want our Chair-designate to be an active, visible and inspiring leader of the Trust, able to set a clear vision and mission, and hold themselves and others accountable for delivery.

Candidates must bring a good understanding of the opportunities and challenges of overseeing a significant grant-making trust, including sound governance, CEO support, investment, operations and financial management. An insight into how community-led organisations work would be a definite asset, as would knowledge of the philanthropic ecosystem in the UK.

As the leader of the trustee group and the wider team, you must exemplify our values and have an inspiring vision for the future. It’s vital that you understand good charity governance, underpinned by the requirements of the Charity Commission and the Seven Principles of Public Life (the “Nolan principles”).

As a Trustee, your responsibilities will include:

  • Reviewing our strategy and operations, to ensure they are up to the task of delivering our vision and mission.

  • Overseeing how we use our assets and resources, as well as ensuring that our financial controls and policies are fit for purpose, implemented, accessible, and reviewed regularly.

  • Establishing effective relationships with other trustees and the Executive Team, enabling both the organisation and the Board to reflect on how to improve their effectiveness, progress and learning.

  • Ensuring that we act within our powers, as laid out in our governing Trust Deed, as well as comply with all relevant legislation, including the Charities Act 2006.

  • Acting in the best interests of Tudor Trust’s mission, avoiding actual and/or potential conflicts of interest while maximising contribution and impact.

  • Embodying our values and holding yourself, the organisation and our Executive Team to account, while leading by example.

  • Building connections, influence and opportunity for Tudor Trust by championing us and our mission.
