Job Description

The British Academy – the UK’s national body for the humanities and social sciences - is seeking a Content Producer to join our Digital, Brand and Marketing department, to work with the Content and Production Manager to execute an exciting new content strategy for the Academy’s outputs.

ROLE PURPOSE / OVERVIEW

The Content Producer will work closely with the Content and Production Manager and the Deputy Head of Digital (Content and Production) to produce exciting new high-quality video, audio and written digital content as part of our new content strategy. They will be responsible for updating the website, conducting research, creating ideas for content and managing projects from conception to delivery. Through this work, the Content Producer will have the opportunity to work with leading experts in the humanities and social sciences and develop their skills in project management, relationship management, digital marketing and stakeholder engagement.

The Digital, Brand and Marketing team leads on the Academy’s digital outputs, including developing new digital assets and messaging for key digital channels. As well as working on the content strategy, the role-holder will act as a brand guardian for the Academy, advising colleagues on best practice for design and brand, and upholding the refreshed editorial and digital standards across the Academy’s digital channels.

This role sits within the Communications Directorate, comprising Press and PR, Events, Publishing, and Digital, Brand and Marketing. The Digital, Brand and Marketing team is responsible for delivering a range of content across the Academy’s digital channels, to ensure an excellent user experience and provide opportunities to showcase the Academy’s work in engaging and accessible ways. The role-holder will have opportunities to work with colleagues across the Directorate, as well as across the wider Academy, and must be an effective communicator with experience of working with a range of stakeholders.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Content production

  • Lead the production of British Academy videos, filming and editing in-house or commissioning videographers in line with project requirements and keeping the team informed on industry trends and developments.

  • Lead the production of British Academy podcast episodes by finding contributors, managing schedules and budgets, recording, transcribing and editing audio.

  • Lead the production of posts for the British Academy blog, including commissioning, editing, publishing and all surrounding communications. 

  • Manage the publication of major policy outputs, advising senior colleagues across the organisation on best practise and ensuring timely delivery of content.

  • Support the publication of email marketing campaigns, working with teams from across the Academy to build, deliver and report on regular email newsletters.

Act as a brand guardian 

  • Meet targets set for KPIs including website sessions, blog production numbers, blog readership and social media followers.

  • Adhere to our style guide and maintain editorial standards across all digital content.

  • Develop new and innovative ways to disseminate our work.

  • Provide informed guidance on tone, content, schedules and target audiences.

  • Provide digital marketing support to all other departments, proactively resolving issues.

Provide expert advice and training

  • Train and advise colleagues in using the website content management system, reviewing and approving updates made by colleagues across the Academy.

  • Report on performance of digital content.

  • Provide digital marketing support for other departments and proactively resolve issues.

Support the work of the Digital, Brand & Marketing team 

  • Task-manage the Digital, Marketing and Brand Assistants as needed.

  • Keep an eye on trends in digital media and feed ideas for development of these channels into the team.

  • Manage relationships with external suppliers, including videographers, recording studios, audio editors and transcribers, digital media agencies and design studios.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

QUALIFICATIONS

Educated to bachelor’s degree level, qualified by experience, or equivalent

  • Write and edit content for online audiences to a professional standard. 

  • Produce successful, high-quality video and audio content to the professional standard of high-profile organisations. 

  • An understanding of the principles of online user experience, confident designing webpages and user journeys.   

  • Demonstrable knowledge and confidence in using content management systems (i.e. Drupal, Wagtail, Wordpress) and training others to use a CMS.   

  • Able to take an analytical approach to online audience data e.g. Google Analytics, in-channel insights, AgoraPulse .   

  • A strong interest in the subjects represented by the Academy.  

  • Ability to use the Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Premiere Pro and Audition; equally comfortable editing audio, video and graphics to a professional standard.
