Job Description

The NOLS Wilderness Medicine Education Director embodies the NOLS mission by leading research, development, and communication of wilderness medicine educational content and delivery methods. This person defines and articulates the curriculum content for internal and external audiences and oversees our quality assurance program for the accuracy and relevance of the curriculum and pedagogy. The Education Director also oversees and develops NOLS Wilderness Medicine courses’ use of learning management systems.

What does an Education Director do?

This role leads our Education Team.  This team is responsible for the content and materials that make NOLS Wilderness Medicine the leader in wilderness medicine education.  On a regular basis you will:

  • Function as one of the Wilderness Medicine directors in the management, development, and execution of the NOLS mission. 

  • Maintain up to date knowledge of developments in wilderness and emergency medicine practices via journals, conferences, books, and personal contacts. 

  • Lead strategic and innovative education initiatives to expand NOLS role as the  leader in wilderness medicine education

  • Maintain up to date knowledge of developments and trends in education and adult learning theory and application. 

  • Develop and maintain communication strategies with Wilderness Medicine faculty.

  • Collaborate with the Wilderness Medicine Director Team on the development of new revenue generating strategies and program models

  • Oversee development of online education at NOLS Wilderness Medicine. 

  • Supervise the WEMT Manager and WEMT program.

  • Develop and implement the Annual Staff Meeting.

  • Strong candidates will possess NOLS Instructor Training Course instructor qualification as well as advanced degrees in education, medicine, or both.

  • The most competitive candidates will also have experience designing, implementing and managing courses utilizing online Learning Management Systems.
