You’ll be responsible for leading our engineering function and setting the standard for work ethic and engineering principles, inculcating in the team a bias to action focussed on delivering maximum customer value.

Our engineers work in cross-functional crews alongside product owners, designers and other contributors as appropriate. More about what you’ll do:

• Working with the VPs Product and Design and reporting to the CEO to develop and deliver Habito’s product strategy and harness it to ensure we retain our ability to build best-in-class products for our customers.

• Coaching, developing and hiring talented engineering managers and engineers to meet the needs of the team and create an environment centred around their development and success.

• Developing an effective engineering culture built around respect and trust that fosters alignment and sustained ability to innovate and deliver as the team grows and scales.

• Being accountable for Habito’s technical strategy, which you’ll build with the principal engineering team to cover aspects such as architecture, regulatory compliance, data science, security and operational IT.

• Inspiring the team to be fiercely competitive externally and empathically collaborative internally; challenging them to strive for ambitious outcomes; championing product vision and creating buy-in all the way from early iteration to long-term maturity and strategy.

• Engineering being a powerful means to the ultimate end of building amazing customer experiences; everything should have a use case.

• Championing and being a voice for engineering across the organisation.

The Candidate

• You have first-hand experience of what makes an effective engineering team and environment and are passionate about helping teams work productively.

• You enjoy working and optimising in an environment where the only constant is change.

• You have experience leading technical teams, managing managers and delivering through others.

• You focus on outcomes and set goals based on data and metrics both to build product and to manage the performance of the team. 

• Support the team by harnessing skills at every level, from hands-on development to coaching and nurturing future technology leaders.

• You have previously had first-hand experience building products using modern technologies, practices and processes -- continuous integration, deployment and release; cloud-native architectures; automated testing, quality assurance and agile, iterative product evolution.

• Be an enthusiastic communicator, facilitator and collaborator across the organization.

• Bring creativity and tenacity to the role; you don’t give up. You push in the face of hard, challenging problems but strive for simplicity in your solutions.
