Job Description
Slow Ways is an initiative to create a national network of walking routes connecting all of Great Britain’s towns and cities as well as thousands of villages.
As a visionary community-interest-company Slow Ways has received seven years of funding from the Lottery Fund, to create transformational change across an ecosystem.
Our dynamic core team of eight together with tens of thousands of contributors and supporters are spread across England, Scotland and Wales.
We seek to provide exceptional, informative, and engaging content that will inspire more people to walk more often, further and for more purposes.
We are looking for an editor to help assemble, edit, upload and review content. The successful person will have a good eye for quality and accuracy, and know how to add value to a story. You will have ideas for teaming stories with great photography or illustration to make them exciting.
You will be involved with forward planning of story schedules in line with agreed keywords and reader interest areas. You will also coordinate what is expected and when, and liaise with the team to keep content flowing.
There is creative space within the role to create content from scratch too.
Responsibilities
Proofread, edit and improve stories or pieces.
Oversee layout (artwork, design, photography).
Coordinate online or print publishing cycle and manage content areas.
Generate eye-catching headlines in alignment with targeted audience’s preferences and Slow Ways aims.
Comply with media law and ethical guidelines.
Meet deadlines.
Essential skills
Experience of SEO and readability good practice.
Excellent, accurate, enjoyable English skills.
Understanding of social media and excitement about the role of content in creating a movement.
Preferred skills
Ability to write, proof and translate in Welsh is desirable but NOT essential.
Proven working experience as an online editor.
Strong writing/editing/proofreading skills and an excellent portfolio.
An eye for detail along with critical thinking.
Prioritising and multitasking
This is a hybrid-working role. You will be expected to work at least one day per fortnight in or around (within one hour's commute) our Aberystwyth hub, with occasional meetings taking place in different locations across Great Britain.
