Join our 'Ask Me Anything' session on Tuesday 20 June at 12:30pm:
Blackbird is looking to hire a Legal & Compliance Analyst on a full time 12 month fixed term basis to join us in providing a world-class experience to Blackbird, our investors and portfolio companies.
About the Role
At Blackbird our mission is to be a generational owner of the most ambitious tech companies founded by Aussies and Kiwis. To match this ambition, as we grow we are constantly striving to ensure that we are a transparent, efficient, well governed and fully compliant financial services organisation.
We’re looking for someone who wants to build out their capabilities to cover the full gamut of legal and compliance activities at a venture capital firm, including in relation to corporate and fund structures, regulatory compliance and governance. This role will sit within our Legal & Compliance Team, report to our Compliance & Risk Manager, Nina Miller, and work closely with our Legal Counsel, Cindy Lam.
The successful candidate will be someone who wants to use their legal and compliance talents in an open minded and autonomous environment where no day is ever the same. We’re looking for someone who is incredibly organised with an eye for detail, has a high ownership/growth mentality, and keen to jump into any task.
Whilst we aren’t looking for or expecting experience in every single one of these aspects, here is a brief overview of the type of work the role will encompass:
Corporate/fund structures - assisting with various aspects of Blackbird’s corporate and fund structures, including maintaining key corporate and fund information.
Fund governance & maintenance - assisting with all aspects of our ongoing fund governance and maintenance requirements.
Governance & reporting - assisting with corporate governance tasks such as committee and board meeting content, reporting and minutes/resolutions.
Regulatory compliance - assisting the team with the submission of various regulatory filings (including ASIC filings) as well as assisting with a range of other internal regulatory compliance tasks.
Compliance policies & registers - working closely with the team to maintain Blackbird’s compliance policies and registers in relation to a broad range of regulatory matters, including financial services, anti-money laundering and privacy regulations.
Staff training - managing the administration of Blackbird’s compliance training platform and attending to other training administration requirements, as necessary.
Operational processes - assist in monitoring and improving Blackbird’s internal legal and compliance processes and checklists.
General corporate/commercial - assisting as required in the review of various general corporate/ commercial contracts and matters.
Managing audit & due diligence responses - assisting in the response to various auditor, consultant and investor requests throughout the year.
Position Requirements
Ideally, the chosen candidate will have started building their skills in a legal or compliance environment. That said, your background is less important than the key skills, which include:
Analytical thinking: Being extremely detail-oriented, analytical and organised.
Execution excellence: Ability to multi-task and work to tight and often competing deadlines. HANDS ON! Happy to jump in and get into the weeds of a task, no matter how big or small.
Technical competence: A basic understanding of and ability to navigate general corporate/fund governance concepts as well as the regulatory frameworks within which Blackbird operates. Being comfortable in interpreting basic legal and policy documents.
Relationship management: Strong communication skills both internally and externally and maintaining a hospitality mindset in dealing with all stakeholders.
Creative problem solving: Ability to take a practical, creative and solution oriented approach in assisting the team to translate regulatory requirements/fund and policy documents into workable systems, processes and controls.
Business thinking: Growth mentality - an appreciation and basic understanding of our business and industry with a keen eagerness to learn more!
We’re looking for someone who is as passionate as us about building an iconic investment business. You must have a high ownership mentality and the ability to take responsibility for goals and outcomes.
