The Catapult’s Resilient Earth (RE) strategy takes a system-level approach to building UK economic growth and resilience, enabling businesses to scale through trusted adoption in high-growth sectors. The RE strategy spans across two interventions – Natural Capital & Traceability and clean Energy & Infrastructure. In each of these interventions exist complex markets with the potential of adopting space technologies. This placement will be to investigate markets and the opportunities within them relevant to the Natural Capital & Traceability intervention. This intervention embeds trusted, space-enabled monitoring and assurance into nature finance and critical mineral supply chains to overcome trust, compliance and procurement barriers that limit market uptake. This project will align policy, financial and industrial demand with high-potential UK capabilities enables adoption and growth, strengthening resilience. The applicant will identify those market opportunities and innovation gaps with the most impact and economic growth potential for the intervention to pursue within the Critical Mineral Supply Chains growth area.
The internship will involve:
Market Analysis and Assessment: Evaluating market characteristics, trends and drivers, as well as building understanding of key players and stakeholders interacting within the market.
Demand and adoption analysis: examine the adoption curve for space-based solutions across industries, and identification of factors influencing that demand, including SWOT analysis.
Stakeholder engagement: Engaging both internally, to build knowledge of applicable technical solutions as well as externally, to support value proposition and opportunity development is expected.
The successful applicant should have the following qualities and abilities:
Skills:
Technical
Practical experience in market analysis of emerging markets with a high degree of innovation
Working knowledge of economic analysis and scenario analysis
Understanding of space technology applied to terrestrial sectors.
Human
Collaborative Working
Independent thinking.
Strategic thinking.
Communication skills, both written and verbal to a range of colleagues both technical and strategic.
Academic requirements:
Bachelors/Masters degree in Business, Consulting, Business Strategy, Economics or similar (industry and market research, data synthesis and analysis, economic and trend analysis, communication and presentation skills are key)
Desirable requirements:
a demonstrated interest in mining/mineral exploration and an interest in applied space data applications.
Process details:
8 weeks minimum fixed term contract to be agreed with successful candidate
5 days holiday to be taken during the placement
