About The Role

This role involves providing crucial support within the finance team, contributing to the accurate maintenance of financial records and playing a vital part in ensuring the precision, completeness, and timeliness of financial reporting. This position requires attention to detail, proficiency in financial processes, and the ability to collaborate effectively with the broader Sunrise team.

About You

You’re a team player with a great eye for detail.  You are driven by ensuring that financial information, advice and reporting supports decision makers in the planning and delivery of their programmatic functions. You’re passionate about leveraging your first-rate accounting skills to help solve the climate crisis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process accounts payable and receivable invoices in an accurate and timely manner

  • Support the maintenance of the general ledger including completing the monthly balance sheet, bank,  and expense reconciliations

  • Completion of month end processing including monthly accruals, journals, fixed assets and depreciation schedules

  • Support the monthly rolling forecast and annual budget process with the collation of data from programmatic teams 

  • Assist with payroll reconciliation

  • Support with ensuring compliance to accounting standards and policies, financial controls, systems and delegations 

  • Assist with providing documentation and support for completion of annual audits

  • Supports a program of continuous improvement and automation to support timely and effective processing

  • Aligns own work and with Sunrise’s mission, values, and OKR’s.

Required skills and experience    

  • Entry level experience in a similar or related role including unpaid, grassroots or lived experience;  or other relevant transferable skills and experience.

  • A working knowledge of, and experience in accounting principles practices.

  • Experience in a finance processing role 

  • Strong analytical skills, excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach to troubleshooting and problem solving.

  • Proficient in Excel (or similar), and Financial Management Systems.

  • Sound verbal and written communication skills

  • Commitment to providing a quality internal service with high levels of satisfaction.

  • A passion for action on climate change and a commitment to social justice, equity, diversity and inclusion

Desirable Skills and Experience   

  • A working knowledge of the financial management of complex granting arrangements in a non-profit organisation.

  • Experience working internationally across cultures, and in contributing to inclusive team cultures.

Job requirements

  • Must be located in the Pacific Standard Timezone
