Job Description

Bridges Sustainable Growth Funds (‘SGF’) invest in ambitious growth businesses where generating sustainable financial growth and achievement of a competitive private equity return is aligned with positive impact. Bridges raised SGF IV in 2017 and has made 4 investments over the past 12 months.

Bridges Outcomes  creates and delivers outcomes-based projects both in the UK and in developing countries.  Bridges works in partnership with impact-driven organisations, community groups, specialist partners, government and donors to design and deliver impactful services in vital areas like housing, employment, education, wellbeing and natural capital.   Bridges Outcomes team has supported over 60 Outcomes Partnerships to date, creating over £100m of outcomes for over 39,000 people and £1bn of public value.

 

Bridges is seeking Interns for the summer of 2023 to work in our SGF and Outcomes teams, supporting new investments and value and impact creation within our portfolio.

We are seeking ambitious self-starters to work alongside the teams to scope and execute structured sector deep dives, including value chain mapping, assessing relative sector and business model attractions against our investment criteria and thematic focuses, and completing asset screens.

In addition to their main responsibilities, the interns will have the opportunity to contribute to Bridges thought pieces, and to learn about the broader impact investment private equity investment process via regular teach-ins with the deal teams on a breadth of topics. We will also be asking them to oversee the work of our selected work experience students (who will also be working with the investment teams) over the course of the summer.

 

Priorities for the internship  

The successful candidate will have a range of responsibilities across origination, transaction and portfolio work: 

>      Developing new opportunities for Bridges. Undertake market mapping of one or more sectors, including evaluating value chains to identify most attractive sub-sectors or market niches, aligned to Bridges’ investment strategies

>      Researching the market. Draw on primary and secondary research to test hypotheses on long term market “winners” and specific players

>      Communicating with the team and others. Attend industry events/conferences where possible to gather data and develop network. Brief team(s) at various intervals throughout process on key findings. Deliver final presentation of key findings and recommendations regarding sector niche and/or target companies to panel of deal team members

>       Assist with new investment due diligence workstreams and portfolio projects. This may involve conducting phone call interviews with our expert networks to learn more about sectors/companies, undertaking analysis of company data and supporting on deal team paper / presentation writing and modelling

>      Develop and maintain stakeholder relationships. Engaging with and building strong relationships with multiple stakeholders

  The key attributes we’re looking for in a candidate:

 >      Keen interest in sustainable and impact investment

>      Excellent written and oral communication skills and well as presentation (PowerPoint) skills

>      Proven ability to design and execute in-depth research project from start to finish

>      Good interpersonal skills and multi-stakeholder management

>      Self-starter with proven ability to work independently and within a team

 

Suitable candidates will have: 

 >      Excellent academic qualifications – degree level education or experience -  MBA, MPA, MPP (in progress or completed) preferred

>      Strong analytical skills, comfortable with Excel (modelling experience a plus)

>      Management consulting, research, strategy or investment background

>      Good project management skills
