Job Description

The Head, Investment Managers is responsible for establishing and developing a dialogue with Investment Managers on barriers they face in market function as responsible investors.

The role is expected to secretariat and support the Sustainable Systems Investment Managers Reference Group mechanism to facilitate dialogue with Investment Managers and the identification of priority issues. 

The role is expected to oversee inputs to the Research and Progression team workstreams and the Sustainable Financial Systems team for system reform priorities, as well as work collaboratively with the Senior Lead. Asset Owners and several other teams across PRI.

The Head, Investment Managers will report to the Director, Sustainable Financial Systems (or the Director, Research and Progression if hired during the secondment period).

Core Responsibilities

  • Secretariat the Sustainable Systems Investment Managers Reference Group (SSIMRG) – including preparing meeting agendas and papers and recording conclusions and actions arising from the reference group’s meetings.

  • Liaise with the SSIMRG Steering Committee and key partners among PRI’s staff to design and produce SSIMRG quarterly call agendas.

  • Support good working relationships with members of the PRI guidance, policy, initiatives, ESG issues, sustainable financial systems, and responsible investment ecosystems teams.

  • Shepherd key learnings from investment manager signatories across PRI to ensure these insights inform PRI’s existing work streams or inspire new ones.

  • Conduct orientation/screening calls with prospective SSIMRG members.

  • Collaborate with the Lead on PRI’s Sustainable Systems Asset Owners initiative to explore and promote synergies between the two work streams.

  • Monitor and research key developments relevant to responsible investment for investment manager signatories.

  • Provide regular reporting to the Director of Sustainable Financial Systems and Chief Sustainable Systems Officer as required

Person Specification

  • Good understanding of the PRI, investment practice, the structure and operation of the investment chain and issues relating to developments in sustainable finance and responsible investment.

  • Good knowledge of ESG issues, sustainability outcomes, awareness of PRI’s sustainable systems work.

  • Excellent networking, influencing and interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong and productive relationships and demonstrate credibility at a senior level as a trusted partner in different circumstances (remote/in-person or internal/external) with a clear understanding of what drives people and how to achieve optimal outcomes.

  • Strong facilitation skills. Diplomacy, tact, and ability to build consensus.

  • Outstanding analytical and critical thinking skills. Identifies trends (and risks) and solves problems in a structured and rigorous way with a view to implementing improvements.

  • Self-starter with ability to work autonomously. Candidates should be comfortable with remote working systems and practices and working independently as required.
