Job Description
This newly created role will work closely with the Director of Fundraising and Engagement to lead a highly motivated and experienced fundraising team to expand existing activities, establish new income streams and develop new fundraising activities to deliver significant growth over the next five years to position us as a £3m a year income charity by March 2029.
To support this growth we are investing in the fundraising team and expanding from a team of four to a team of seven in April 2024 (increasing to a team of ten in April 2025). We also have a fantastic team of Ambassadors, and Community Champions who support our fundraising efforts.
The Head of Fundraising will be a key member of the Senior Management Team and will work closely with other senior colleagues and our board of trustees. Working with the Director of Fundraising & Engagement to deliver a highly ambitious five-year fundraising strategy and guide the team through a significant period of growth. Responsible for the management of the fundraising team, you will drive the development and implementation of our fundraising activity in line with the fundraising strategy and annual plan.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
Strategy and Planning
In collaboration with the Director of Fundraising & Engagement, you will deliver the new five-year fundraising strategy and lead on the development of long-term strategic planning for our fundraising activities.
You will be responsible for the annual fundraising planning process to produce effective strategies and campaigns to achieve income targets across the range of revenue streams.
Financial Planning and Budget Management
You will produce cost-effective budgets to achieve action plans.
You will develop and maintain income and expenditure tracking and evaluation systems.
You will ensure the Fundraising Department keeps within budget.
Fundraising
Develop and manage an effective fundraising team to achieve fundraising targets and deliver growth.
Work with the Individual Giving team to develop a proactive legacy fundraising programme.
Oversee and drive forward the management of the Individual Giving, Community, Challenge & Event programmes.
Support with the stewardship of senior relationships with our corporate partners.
You will identify, cultivate, and secure new funding streams, in particular, Major Donors, Trusts and Events.
Oversee the development and maintenance of effective supporter journeys.
Be responsible for the acquisition and stewardship of Major Donors in the early years of the strategy, moving into a more supportive role in year three once a post is in place to manage this area.
Senior Management
Work collaboratively with other members of the senior management team and across the organisation, and foster this culture throughout the fundraising team.
You will work closely alongside senior colleagues across the charity to drive change and advance compelling fundraising initiatives.
Advise members of senior management team on fundraising progress, work to secure funding for any relevant projects (such as research).
Attend both senior management team meetings, Income, Impact and Development subcommittee and full board meetings (which are held in the evenings).
Deputise for the Director of Fundraising & Engagement if required.
