Job Description

About Tideline

Tideline is a specialist consulting firm that provides expert impact investing advice and has played a foundational role in building the field since the firm’s inception in 2014. Our mission is to enable leading investors to integrate and deliver impact with confidence, and our vision is a world that expects and trusts in the ability of all financial capital to contribute to a just society and thriving planet. To that end, our services include impact management strategy, implementation, and research and thought leadership.

Tideline has completed more than 200 projects for clients deploying over $200B in impact capital. With services focused on strategy and implementation, the firm supports impact investing platforms, programs, and vehicles globally across themes and sectors. Past clients have included diverse leading global asset owners, asset managers, and service providers active in impact investing across a variety of asset classes and sectors.

Impact is a guiding force for everything that we do – how we interact with clients, conduct ourselves as a business, and work with each other as teammates. We strive to deliver integral, field-leading work for our clients while also providing to the market an aspirational model of what a more regenerative business can look like.

About the position

In the next five years, Tideline aims to fortify our position in the impact market as the leading trusted advisor to institutional investors and to grow sustainably in order to deepen our market influence and invest in team. Currently, we have an incredible multi-disciplinary team that includes exceptional associates and analysts, along with our founding partner and one associate partner. In order to achieve our goals, we are looking to add capacity to our team at the manager level, with an opportunity to grow into a director-level role.

The primary responsibilities for this role include –

Consulting: Leading client engagements, including managing client relationships and providing guidance, direction-setting, and oversight for the internal team.

People management: Manage Senior Analysts and Associates on the client services team, with the goal of providing regular feedback, support, mentorship, and professional development.

Internal operations and process improvements: Oversee staffing/resourcing of team members to internal and client-facing projects, taking into consideration individual team members’ areas of expertise, capacity, and professional development goals. Work with the senior management team to make service delivery more effective and efficient (for example, through identifying and integrating new software tools).

Business development: Lead the drafting of proposals and other business development materials, in collaboration with our marketing/BD team.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate is an experienced consultant who enjoys managing people and thinking about processes. Tideline additionally values team members who are collaborative, organized, and driven to learn; communicate well; and are deeply committed to advancing social and environmental outcomes.

In order to be considered for the role, candidates must have –

  • A bachelor’s degree

  • 5-8 years of work experience (candidates with more experience will also be considered)

  • Consulting experience, including experience managing and/or leading projects as well as client-facing experience

  • Strong interest in managing, developing, and supporting people and teams

  • An interest in making a long-term commitment to a boutique consulting firm, with the goal of growing into a senior leadership position

  • Some experience in the impact investing space

  • A track record of collaborating with direct and indirect reports and peers

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Comfort learning new technology tools and platforms

  • Commitment to Tideline’s values, as articulated in our DE&I Statement and Community Agreement (see pp. 49-52 of our Milestone Report).

  • Eligibility to work in the US indefinitely

The ideal candidate would also have one or more of the following –

  • Management experience, including mentoring and coaching teams with diverse professional backgrounds. Providing professional development support and mentorship will be key to success in this role.

  • Significant knowledge and experience in impact investing and impact management

  • Experience with business development and revenue generation

  • Based near one of our hubs in New York or Portland – this makes it easier to spend time with the team in-person, but we are a remote-first business and invite candidates to apply from anywhere within the US

What will the hiring process look like?

Looking for a new job can be a daunting experience. Our approach is based in empathy and a desire for candidates to have a good experience. We want to give everyone an opportunity to display their strengths through their answers to our questions.

Our timeline from application close date to decision typically takes ~6 weeks for junior roles and 8-10 weeks for more senior roles. We try to move things along as quickly as possible, but sometimes schedules get in the way (and we aim to be considerate of yours as well!). We make every effort to communicate consistently and transparently through each step of the process.

For this role, applications are currently set to close on May 12th. You can expect to hear from us between May 13th and May 24th about whether you will be invited to interview for the role. The first step will be a short screening interview (about 25 minutes), and during that interview we will also make sure to give you an overview of the hiring process.

Following the screening interview, we expect to have 2 rounds of interviews as well as a case exercise stage.

How would you describe your culture?

  • Collaborative, inclusive, and passionate. We encourage all team members to be their full selves at work. As a relatively small team, there are a lot of opportunities to have your voice heard. Our structure is relatively flat.

What’s your commitment to DEI to life in culture and workplace?

  • We have an internal DE&I working group that is committed to improving DE&I practices, culture, and employee experience. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion are core tenets of our culture and we place a heavy emphasis on constantly learning and improving our own understanding of what that means for our business. At Tideline, we believe that compassion, equity, diversity, and inclusion are fundamental to our success. Our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion manifests in three key ways:

    • The mission and vision of Tideline and its sister company, BlueMark-- Our firm’s vision of shared, sustainable prosperity is inseparably rooted in the credo of a diverse, equitable, and inclusive world.

    • How we conduct ourselves as an employer -- Tideline is an equal opportunity employer, and we value the unique contributions of each of our team members. Through our hiring, mentoring, and managing, we encourage our team to bring their full selves and individuality to our work.

    • How we use our influence -- In our work with clients, we strive to be an enabling force in the equitable distribution of wealth, opportunities, and privileges within our society.
