POSITION: Head of Ground Operations
REPORTS: Chief Operating Officer
LOCATION : Bristol
EMPLOYEMENT TYPE: Permanent - 35 hours a week (Mon-Fri to include some weekends & bank holidays)
START DATE: ASAP
Background to the role:
The role of Ground Operations Manager is a crucial role with a far reaching remit across the entirety of the Club and associated business. You will be part of the Senior Leadership team and will be central to both short and long term decision making and planning
Job Objective:
To set the strategy for and delivery of all operational areas of match day planning and management including facilities, IT, ground (incl. playing surface) preparation, insurance, regulatory and license requirements as well as employee, player and spectator welfare. You will also act as a Safety Officer for events held at our venue(s) including cricket matches, concerts and other public facing occasions.
The Head of Ground Operations will ensure that the highest standards of delivery are achieved in all they do. This includes full compliance with all regulatory requirements and working closely with internal and external stakeholders to deliver the optimal experience for all visitors to the venue(s). They are expected to lead and develop the teams they manage and also be a positive, supportive and nurturing influence on other employees and departments.
The role will also focus on new opportunities, in particular those that relate to facilities and venues as well as commercial ventures.
You will deliver an outstanding service to all partners as well as ensuring all business objectives are achieved.
Key responsibilities:
Over-delivering in areas of regulatory compliance, beating minimum standards and setting new benchmarks for the team. This includes areas such as:
Sports Ground Safety Authority (SGSA) regulation
Licensing
Insurance
Health & Safety
Acting as Safety Officer
Leading on all Ops related Stakeholder management including partners such as:
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB)
The International Cricket Council (ICC)
Local residents
Emergency services
Cheltenham College
Bristol and Cheltenham town councils
Working with the ECB and ICC on all elements of match day planning and delivery
Line managing the ground staff and the newly created “Projects and Sustainability Manager” role

Overseeing the set-up and delivery of the Cheltenham cricket festival, working closely with the team at Cheltenham College and their partners as well as Gloucestershire Cricket staff.
Managing a number of external suppliers including stewarding, security, cleaning contracts, temporary facilities providers (including seating suppliers), waste management etc
Developing a culture and set of processes that enable a positive working relationship between all departments within Gloucestershire Cricket
Leading on event delivery such as Concerts with support from and delegation to the Projects and Sustainability manager where appropriate
Attending board meetings as required and reporting regularly to the Club’s leadership team and the Executive board on various matters
Assisting the Commercial, Cricket and Community departments in particular with achieving the strategic priorities for the business
Ensuring that our customers and their experience is at the heart of all decisions made
Ensuring that we are true to our strategy through championing a welcome and inclusive environment with environmental sustainability at the heart of it
Personal Specification:
You must be an approachable, versatile and organised individual who can run multiple projects simultaneously. A clear understanding of health and safety, meeting deadlines and KPI’s, proficiency with figures (incl. budget management), good time management and project management skills are essential.
You must be able to cope in what can be a very public and high pressured environment and show calm and a cool head in difficult situations.
Experience of working at major sporting events is a preference.
Experience within the professional sports, and ideally cricket, sector is important.
Experience of working directly with National Sports Governing Bodies is preferable.
It is essential that you must have a highly flexible approach to maintain the needs of the business which will regularly include evening and weekend work as required.
