Job Description

AWO is the leading data rights agency, with cases across the spectrum of data rights and technology. Our team delivers leading data protection, freedom of information and rights over digital technology expertise. We act for individuals, NGOs, corporations, IGOs and government authorities. We pride ourselves on being able to give those less fortunate a legal voice.

We work on the highest profile cases in the area, with a roster of contentious and non-contentious matters that will expand data rights. Our work regularly attracts media attention, and you will be given a platform to grow and develop your own profile. By way of example of the cases the team is working on:

·     Our litigation caseload includes cases against Facebook, Google, risk profiling companies, challenges to government use of data and cases against the online gambling industry.

·      Our public law cases include challenges to decisions of regulators such as the ICO.

·      Our non-contentious work includes being the principal legal advisors to the EDMO Working Group to develop a Code of Conduct for data sharing between platforms and researchers, advising on the proposed UK reforms to the GDPR, advising unions on how data protection norms can protect employees, and advising on the regulations concerning political microtargeting.

AWO can offer a unique role to the new member of the team, as you will be working on all these issues.

AWO’s work is rapidly developing, resulting in an exciting opportunity for a new team member to help deliver our litigation and advisory work to clients across the firm.

We are looking to recruit a solicitor with 3 – 5 years PQE to joining our flourishing legal department. You will be expected to work across our range of contentious and non-contentious matters. You will work on a range of legal regulations concerning technology, data rights and information law, principally the GDPR, Data Protection Act, the Human Rights Act, the Electronic Commerce (EC Directive) Regulations 2002 and the Freedom of Information Act 2000. We also litigate public law cases, so experience of judicial review proceedings would be welcome. The role will report to the Legal Director.

The work includes: 1) litigation work, 2) advisory work, 3) maintaining client relationships, 4) building new relationships, 5) promoting AWO.

This is an exceptional opportunity to build on the work of a busy and successful practice, make your own mark and develop your own profile and case load. You will be given your own platform to build a profile, exposure to agenda-setting case and high-profile clients, be able to progress data rights and be a key part of the success of AWO.Please review the full Job Description which sets out the Job Purpose, Job Description and Person Specification as well as our Application Guide
