Job Description

Historic England have a fantastic opportunity for you to join us as our Business Planning and Performance Manager.

With responsibility for driving corporate planning for the organisation, you will collaborate with colleagues across the whole organisation and at different levels of seniority to develop a well-used Corporate Plan, which allows teams to effectively prioritise and implement activities. You will lead on performance reporting, including headline KPI’s and corporate risk reporting to the Executive Team, Historic England Commission, and the organisation’s sponsoring department, the DCMS.

This role is part of the Strategic Planning Team and sits within Business Improvement Group - a dynamic part of Historic England (HE) committed to enabling innovative delivery, developing HE as an organisation and focusing its performance.

The location of this role is National where we offer hybrid working, you will be based in one of our following offices and from home - Newcastle, York, Manchester, Birmingham, Swindon, Bristol, Portsmouth and Cambridge. 

Salary

National: £36,603 - £39,364 pro-rata

Greater London+: £39,408 - £42,380 pro-rata

What you will be doing

Produce the Corporate Plan and any related business planning tools, assist the Executive Team to develop corporate objectives and prioritised activities.

Work with the Head of Strategic Planning and Director of Strategy and Business Development to embed business planning across the organisation.

Ensure the Corporate Plan remains an active document throughout each year, continually refining prioritised activities with the Executive Team and activity owners, supporting internal engagement and communications.

Provide Commission, the Executive Team and senior managers with the information they need for the effective management and oversight of the work of Historic England by:

  • Maintaining a comprehensive overview of progress against the Corporate Plan, supporting senior stakeholders in understanding their accountability in the implementation of their assigned activities, identifying to the Head of Strategic Planning and Business Improvement Director any significant variation or areas of concern.

  • Overseeing regular KPI reporting and the communication of results to colleagues, ensuring KPIs are actively used to challenge improve performance. Proactively pursue opportunities to improve the corporate performance monitoring framework.

  • Overseeing Historic England's risk monitoring, ensuring the collation of the risk register and risk appetite statement and assist the Executive Team in their interpretation and use.

Manage, motivate and support the Performance Officers to ensure timely and accurate performance data is collated and analysed.

Work collaboratively with the Business Improvement Leadership Team and the Director of Strategy and Business Development to identify, prioritise and ensure delivery of specific improvement projects, particularly relating to business planning and monitoring. Ensure the timely delivery of specific projects assigned to the team by the Head of Strategic Planning.

Be an effective advocate for Historic England and work collaboratively across the organisation to maximise our effectiveness. Undertake any other responsibilities commensurate with the grade and competencies required of the post requested by line management.
