Job Description

Job title: Accounts Assistant

Department: Finance

Salary: A competitive salary is available plus great company benefits 

Location: Flexible hybrid working, three days in office (Farringdon), two days working from home

Hours: Monday – Friday, 40 hours per week

The Role:

Reporting to the Financial Controller, the Accounts Assistant will be supremely organised and will demonstrate the ability to work with a wide variety of stakeholders. They will have the drive and tenacity to hit the ground running, aiming to add value and seek efficiencies at all opportunities.

They will be accountable for key supplier accounts within the Accounts Payable function, tasked with improving existing processes and being the key point of contact for both suppliers and business stakeholders on those accounts.

Collaboration with the wider business and vendors will be key to ensure processes are followed efficiently, vendor payments are made on time whilst maintaining robust financial controls.

The Accounts Assistant will also assist the Financial Controller and Financial Accountant with month end and statutory tasks while supporting the Accounts Receivable function during peak sales periods.

Key Responsibilities:

To provide support across the transactional finance and central accounting team, including:

Accounts Payable

  • Supporting Accounts Payable with invoice posting, vendor account reconciliations and stakeholder management on key suppliers.

  • Working closely with the Supply Chain, Warehouse and Procurement teams to resolve PO issues.

  • Provide ad-hoc support to all relevant colleagues regarding the

  • purchase order to payment system to improve compliance with company policies and procedures across the business.

  • Providing support to other members of the AP team on invoice processing, account reconciliations and PO resolution in peak times.

  • Providing support to the Accounts Payable Manager on weekly payment runs, processing of credit card statements and processing of personal expense claims (reviewing claims vs the company expense policy to ensure compliance).

  • Receiving and processing finance-related post delivered to the office and factory sites.

Accounts Receivable

Supporting Accounts Receivable with raising customer invoices during busy periods

Central Finance

  • Supporting the Financial Accountant and Financial Controller with month end processes (such as posting bank statements in Sage, calculating accruals and processing weekly payroll).

  • Supporting with statutory reporting (such as assisting with the production of VAT and Corporation tax returns, assisting with the annual statutory audit and any ad-hoc audits performed by HMRC).

  • Contribute to the business’ Sustainability strategy by delivering your Brighter Future Sustainability objectives

Essential Requirements:

The successful candidate will be supremely organised and will demonstrate the ability to work with a wide variety of stakeholders. They will have the drive and tenacity to hit the ground running, aiming to add value and seek efficiencies at all opportunities.

You will be joining a small but growing finance team and must be flexible in terms of workload and responsibilities – a can-do attitude is a must. You will have an entrepreneurial mind-set and be able to contribute to the continuing development of the internal finance function within the company. We are looking for someone with:

  • Prior experience of working within, or closely with, a finance function, ideally within the FMCG industry.

  • A detail-orientated problem solver

  • Strong analytical and organisational skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills are also essential to effectively interact with all teams, areas and levels of business and customers

  • Knowledge of SAGE 200 & Sicon WAP is preferred but not essential

  • Experienced with Windows 365 and Microsoft Office, with proficient excel

  • skills is particularly important.
