We currently have an opportunity for a bright, enthusiastic Financial Accountant to join the Singapore office of the Behavioural Insights Team

The Behavioural Insights Team (BIT) is a social purpose company that combines two approaches to improve people’s lives and communities. First, we use behavioural science (behavioural economics, social psychology) to design new policy ideas with our partners. Second, we run policy experiments, often using randomised controlled trials (RCTs), to determine the effectiveness of those ideas.

About the role

The role entails leading a diverse range of internal accounting/finance processes in Singapore for the domestic and international clusters and providing support to both teams while reporting to the APAC Head of Finance based in Sydney. 

The ideal candidate for this role would be a  qualified accountant with approximately 3 years of relevant work experience in a small, multinational organisation.

Duties and responsibilities

Monthly

  • Payroll processing, including all reconciliations (including leave entitlements), lodgement and reconciliation of CPF

  • AP, AR & expense claim management

  • Bank reconciliations and day-to-day transactional entries

  • Responsible for financial matters for projects (including subcontractor claims management, monthly client reporting and invoicing)

  • Responsible for month end activities (processing month end journals and preparation of balance sheet reconciliations/variance analysis)

  • Maintenance of fixed assets register

  • Monitor & maintain cash flow 

Quarterly

  • Quarterly GST return preparation and lodgement

  • Manage relationship with external accountant

  • Working closely with Singapore external accountant on corporate tax (ECI, Form C-S) and corporate secretarial matters

  • Cash flow and quarterly forecasting 

Yearly

  • Computation of annual wages reconciliation and preparation of IR8A submission

  • Preparation for the financial year end and audit process (local Singapore and global audit)

  • Annual budget preparation

Your skills and experience

To be successful in this role it is essential you have:

  • Relevant degree qualification in Finance / Accounting and a professional qualification like CA/ACCA

  • Minimum 3 years post qualification working experience in a similar role

  • Strong accuracy & attention to detail

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate with staff across a number of international offices. This will include managing correspondence across multiple time zones and may occasionally require out-of-hours calls

  • Working experience of accounting and payroll software

  • Ability to meet strict deadlines

  • Intermediate skills in all MS Office programs; especially in MS Excel, as well as Google suite of programs (Gmail, Drive, Meet, Sheets & Docs)

  • Possess a positive mindset with a can-do attitude to learn new systems, take on new tasks and problem solve.

  • A strong work ethic with the ability to manage your workload autonomously and proactively. 

  • Discreet in dealing with confidential data

  • Working knowledge of withholding tax and foreign transactions (e.g. invoices to overseas clients) is regarded favourably
