Job Description
The NOLS Teton Valley (TV) Campus Director provides leadership to Teton Valley program and operations in support of NOLS’ mission and goals. This role supervises a growing winter, river and hiking program, with students in the field for 6+ months of the year. The Teton Valley Campus Director supervises an in-town team of 4-12 depending on the time of year. They work directly with program supervisors, operations staff, and field instructors, to build skill sets and reach both individual and location goals. This role is responsible for expedition program quality, risk management, and student and staff satisfaction.
The Campus Director represents NOLS and promotes positive community relations in Teton Valley and throughout Idaho and Wyoming, working with local government and non-governmental agencies to advance the NOLS mission in all Teton Valley operating areas.
There is potential for NOLS classroom and/or field work in the shoulder seasons.

What does the Teton Valley Campus Director do?
Lead a high-performing team in service to exceptional student experiences. Provide accurate information and outstanding student service, create a welcoming atmosphere and quality program that incorporates student feedback. Serve ~450 students on over 40 courses and 4800+ student days.
Coach and mentor staff within the winter program, river, and hiking programs. Maintain relationships with outside industry professionals to aid in program development as well as instructors’ continuing education.
Hire, train, supervise, develop, and evaluate up to 12 campus support staff in accordance with NOLS practices. Create an inclusive and welcoming environment at a location that also houses staff. Ensure excellent staff service, including effective supervision and incorporation of staff feedback.
Provide risk management oversight for field programs, including emergency response, management of evacuations and student behavior challenges (including family contact), and incident reporting.
Build budgets and manage spending for NOLS Teton Valley, with $1,000,000+ in revenue and $600,000+ in expense.
Build and maintain positive relationships with other NOLS departments and campuses.
Support evacuation needs of all TV courses through carrying the evacuation phone, overseeing evacuation needs and leading in crisis response,
Understand the importance of cultural consciousness in building a welcoming educational environment for all staff and students.
Participate as a member of the schoolwide leadership team and expedition operations director team to exchange knowledge, support, and enhance the school’s overall program and mission.
Communicate NOLS vision and state of the school to staff.
Maintain excellent working relationships with relevant land managers and other user groups. Attend land use planning and permit holder meetings as necessary.
Drive courses and support course logistics and operations staff as needed.
Maintain safe, clean, comfortable and efficient facilities that provide a welcoming and calm atmosphere.
Foster and maintain a strong local presence in the Teton Valley region of the US.
Collaborate with schoolwide leadership to grow Teton Valley programming while leading Teton Valley campus to play a role in the execution of the Second Summit Strategic Plan.
In your first 6 months, you will:
Gain a deep understanding of NOLS Teton Valley course offerings and classrooms, our current operations needs, and the skills that are required to meet both school and local government expectations.
Connect with government agencies regarding our operating permits.
Train with NOLS HQ to understand how the branch finances work.
Build relationships with all staff members, instructors, and community partners.
Oversee NOLS Teton Valley winter operating season.
Gain proficiency in using software like Quicken, Airtables, Microsoft Excel, and our internal database, Nexus.
Hire a seasonal summer team.
Collaborate with the Field Staffing Office to staff and execute winter courses and plan for summer.

This position requires related post-secondary education and some experience in the program area, or extensive technical and supervisory experience.
Able to maintain a flexible schedule, working some long days, weekends and holidays.
Ideal candidate has commercial, whitewater guide and management experience and/ or extensive backcountry ski experience and avalanche training.
Ideal candidate has experience working in the field for NOLS in one or more of the programs taught at NOLS Teton Valley.
