This new senior role will join ACCR’s Company Strategy team, expanding our company engagement and campaign oversight capabilities, working in strategic alignment with ACCR’s wider team in Australia and Europe. The position holder will consider the available strategies, networks and levers that can be harnessed to facilitate more rapid and meaningful decarbonisation by specific companies and/or sectors. This role will identify opportunities to deploy the legal rights and tools of institutional investors and collaborate with key stakeholders as needed to enable real world emissions reduction by listed companies.

  • You thrive when leading complex projects in a fast changing environment

  • You are a skilled collaborator and relationship builder

  • You can effectively communicate complex, evidence-based information, explore opportunities and navigate nuanced organisational partnerships

  • You get energy from setting clear and ambitious long-term strategic goals and outlining the steps required for implementation

  • You want to achieve outcomes working alongside diligent and motivated colleagues

  • You are nimble to adapt to changing realities - you see the whole picture and don’t mind jumping into the little details to make big outcomes happen.

Responsibilities:

The role will include the following responsibilities:

  • Contribute perspectives and analysis into the target company selection process for ACCR.

  • Work with expert analysts from the ACCR Research team, and third-party researchers, to establish and implement research plans that underpin company strategies, with a lens to advancing investor knowledge, engagement and ambition.

  • Working with the Communications Lead, develop communications strategies for each company. This may also include representing ACCR in relevant conferences, events and in time, media opportunities.

  • Schedule, prepare for and attend engagement meetings with companies and relevant colleagues.

  • Work with the ACCR Investor Engagement team to develop and implement investor engagement plans to support company strategies.

  • Liaise with other civil society organisations that are also focused on those companies to identify opportunities to collaborate.

Criteria:

You may not have done this type of role before, but we are looking for someone with substantial relevant experience, including the following:

  • Industry knowledge or experience in one or more of the following areas: mining, utilities, steelmaking, oil and gas, and/or financial services, ideally with a focus on decarbonisation

  • Experience working with investors or listed companies, ideally on climate or other ESG issues

  • Excellent organisational and project execution skills, including prioritisation and attention to detail, ability to work to tight deadlines, and move quickly if the opportunity presents itself

  • Strong intellectual acumen and curiosity - able to digest and effectively communicate a range of complex information, with the ability to direct your thinking towards possibility and potential pathways

  • Ability to think strategically and strong instincts when it comes to risk and opportunity

  • Excellent relational skills - with external parties and colleagues

  • Ability to lead company engagements and negotiations

  • Excellent written English skills

  • Commitment to addressing climate change

Not required but would be an advantage:

  • An understanding of shareholder rights and levers for influencing listed companies

  • Media experience

  • Demonstrated aptitude for network style collaboration
