Job Description

The Sales Manager position operates from within the HarperCollins 360 business unit, a global publishing and distribution initiative within HarperCollins. Harper360 is responsible for the distribution, marketing, publicity, and sales of HarperCollins Christian Publishing (HCCP is the most award-winning inspirational publisher in the industry) & HarperCollins Focus (Imprints that enlighten and empower readers to transform their hearts and minds, connecting through story, advice, mentorship, and community), into the UK marketplace.

The position is responsible for selling a wide portfolio of world renowned HCCP & HCF authors and brands across a spectrum of key adult and children’s genres into Key Trade Accounts, Non-Bookshop Markets, and the Church Ministries. They will manage the publication programme and the sales budget, adding value and securing optimum promotional space across varied sales environments. They will also shadow and support the Affiliate Publisher with global publishing decisions.

Key Accountabilities

  • First point of contact for selected accounts, including Amazon, on ordering, stocking, and distribution of titles.  Cultivate effective business relationships with main customer decision makers.

  • Creating growth plans for each of our key trade accounts and high street accounts.

  • Create and organise sales presentations as needed for internal and external presentations

  • Create business plans for ministries and institutions

  • Map potential customers and generate leads for new opportunities

  • Organise the divisions presence at trade events such as roadshows and book fairs

  • Communicate with the broader UK sales team on sales opportunities re trends in the market and media

  • Present titles to the Harper UK trade & digital sales team at the monthly key account meeting

  • Communicate and manage stock needs

  • Ensure metadata and Amazon assets are up to date ahead of publication.

  • Coordinate with the Sales and Marketing Executive on social media to promote front and backlist titles

  • Assist in quarterly UK pricing reviews for trade and digital titles, with an aim to grow sales

  • Provide weekly system generated reports on key accounts.

Person Specification

  • Experience of non-trade and trade publishing account management

  • Demonstrable experience of exceeding sales quotas

  • Experience of producing sales presentations including spreadsheets and graphs

  • Confidence with sales analysis and sales data

  • Experience of working in a busy environment and balancing priorities

  • Proven experience growing key accounts

Special working conditions: Hybrid working 2 days + in the office

Skills required

  • Must be an excellent communicator with strong customer service ethic

  • Strong organisation skills

  • Strong customer experience

  • Computer literate, Excel, Word, PowerPoint etc

  • Business creative
