Job Description

The Global Innovation Fund(GIF) is a non-profit, multilateral investment vehicle established to find, fund, and scale-up cost-effective, evidence-based innovations that have the potential to measurably improve the lives of millions of people living on $5 a day or less.

GIF was launched in 2013 by the U.K. and the U.S governments to invest in innovations in the public or private sector that will inspire fresh thinking and create better solutions in developing countries. These government donors were soon joined by Australia, Canada, and Sweden, alongside additional corporate and philanthropic partners, all of whom share GIF’s commitment to evidence-based innovation as a means to confronting big development challenges. GIF is headquartered in London, with offices also in Nairobi, Singapore and Washington D.C.

GIF offers grants, loans, and equity-type investments ranging from $230,000 USD to $15 million USD to support a range of innovations with strong potential for social impact at a large scale. We support innovators at different phases of development, ranging from early start-up and pilot-testing to rigorous experiments and larger scale implementation. The innovations GIF supports can be located in any developing country and may focus on any sector relevant to international development. GIF works with the private sector, NGOs, academic groups, and governments.

Donor Relations underpins all of GIF’s work: to engage with mission-aligned government agencies and organisations to improve the lives of the world’s poorest. Maintaining strong relationships with existing donors, which include government development agencies, is a key priority for the Donor Relations team and the whole organisation. As GIF looks to grow and expand its presence, identifying and engaging with new partners and donors will be critical to this success.

This position sits in the Donor Relations Team, and reports to the Chief Operating Officer. The jobholder will have a diverse set of responsibilities including:

●       Drafting, editing and project managing the development of strategic reports to government donors and investors on an annual, quarterly, and ad hoc basis;

●       Managing and collaborating with colleagues from across the organisation, including the Investment and Analytics teams, to ensure the timely delivery of government donor reporting, in accordance with reporting requirements;

●       Managing the day-to-day relationship with government donor partners;

●       Identifying new, like-minded organisations to approach for funding, understanding their priorities and opportunities for GIF;

●       Communicating internally GIF’s alignment with the international development policies and strategies of potential and existing donors;

●       Supporting engagement with government, philanthropic, and corporate funding targets, including managing the drafting and submission of funding proposals;

●       Preparing written and verbal briefings and talking points for the CEO and the rest of the Executive Team for meetings with government and policy stakeholders;

●       Preparing presentations for key audiences including the board and external engagements;

●       Collaborating with the communications lead to develop communication products for new and existing donor partners;

●       Working closely with the CEO, COO, and Communications Team to ensure GIF is communicating effectively – including writing or editing written and verbal communications.

●       Other duties as assigned from time to time.

Our ideal candidate will have:

●       At least five years of experience, of which five are directly relevant to the role;

●       Experience analysing and interpreting complex information in a professional capacity;

●       Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to synthesise complex ideas and clearly present findings and recommendations, including written reports and presentations;

●       Proven experience of managing projects with multiple stakeholders, including policymakers;

●       Experience supporting senior leaders, preferably gained in a political or business context;

●       Strong organisational skills that reflect an ability to multitask and prioritise;

●       The ability to meet tight deadlines for multiple projects;

●       Strong attention to detail and accuracy, whilst also being able to see the bigger picture and wider impact;

●       A commitment to international development and social innovation; and

●       An undergraduate degree in a relevant subject, e.g. development, politics, or economics;

You will report to the Chief Operating Officer. This is a non-managerial position offered on a fixed term basis. This role will be based in our London office where we operate a hybrid working policy. Any job offer made will be subject to the successful candidate having the authorisation to work in the UK prior to commencing work at GIF. Please apply using the following link:
