Job Description

HDR UK requires the services of an experienced Automation tester to lead the set-up and implementation of a test automation framework to continuously validate the core operation of our flagship product, the HDR Innovation Gateway ( www.healthdatagateway.org ) and associated services. The Innovation Gateway was first released in May 2020 and provides a key resource to discover and access health data resources for researchers and data custodians.  Its primary function is providing visibility to and supporting access requests for data sets by researchers in the UK and around the globe to health data that can support them in their quest to deliver scientific insights, that improve health and healthcare of the UK and worldwide populations.

The Gateway today holds information on over 700 data sets which researchers can securely request access to and is supported by over 60 data custodians across the UK and the globe.

These data sets have supported the publication of over 1,900 impactful papers at the cutting edge of scientific and medical discoveries.

The Gateway has been a critical deliverable in HDR UK’s first quinquennium (5 years) and we are really looking to scale up as we look forward into the future to support 1,000’s of researchers on a global basis discovery and gain access to data in a trustworthy and secure fashion, enabling discoveries that improve people’s lives.

The role will involve the definition of the test tools, approach and framework required to define and build testing automation.  This framework and its tests will run continuously to regression test the Gateway core functionality on an ongoing basis. This will enable the Gateway team to identify and resolve regression issues quickly before releases are deployed to production, where they are most expensive to fix.

Automation testing will cover software development activities, external integrations and the content hosted by the Gateway.

The successful applicant will work closely with the Product Owner, Business Analysts, Development team and Solution Architect to define test criteria, tools and framework and support constant creation of new tests.

They will also work closely with Product Stakeholders, the Chief Product Owner and UAT lead to understand story acceptance criteria and the definition of core gateway user journeys that the Gateway must support.

Support of the UAT test lead in the completion of user stories will be a key part of the role.
