Job Description

The post holder will be a key member of the BHF Data Science Centre team, working on one or more of the six thematic areas and the diabetes and stroke data science catalysts. This will involve working closely with the health data science team, Director, Deputy Director, relevant Associate Directors, wider BHF Data Science Centre team, HDR UK staff, data custodians and researchers / data scientists from academia, NHS organisations and industry.

The main responsibility of this role will be to provide the data management and data curation support needed to prepare analysis-ready data for researchers who are looking to use linked national health data, including hospital, primary care, mortality, COVID-19 test data, vaccination data and specialist audit and registry datasets to answer a wide variety of research questions.

The post-holder will contribute to the development and application of re-usable data curation pipelines, including tools to apply novel and existing code lists and algorithms to derive the required variables (e.g., disease outcomes, phenotypes, medications). The post-holder will be required to perform analyses of the data for quality control purposes and to help better understand the utility of the data. The post holder may also have opportunities to undertake statistical analyses to answer research questions using linked health data, working with the Centre’s Associate Directors or alongside research teams based in partner institutions.

This post is an attractive career development opportunity, which would suit a health data/ computer scientist with some previous experience of data wrangling and curation of health data for research projects, who wishes to broaden their experience and skills in this area.
