Job Title    Senior Telecommunications Systems Engineer 

The Challenge: We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Communications Systems Engineer to join the Ubiquitous Communication (UC) department to work on exciting national and international collaborative projects involving diverse stakeholders ranging from research to commercial operators in the UK and abroad.  Our projects and testbeds offer the unique opportunity to work across a wide range of communication technologies, with a view to design, integrate, test and deploy such systems in various markets to support real applications, on earth and in space. We also work closely with academia and R&D centres to accelerate TRL progression. The team is at the forefront of exploitation of technologies that will underpin the networks of the future.  

We are looking for enthusiastic candidates who will be involved in a wide range of activities – including technical delivery on projects, technical consultancy to businesses, engagement with universities and R&D centres and working within our facilities with a wide range of professionals in other disciplines. Equally, there is the opportunity to work in the area of 6G networks through the evolution of both TN and NTN.

Skills & Experience required:  

• PhD/MSc in Telecommunications systems or similar discipline.  

• Extensive experience in the telecommunication or similar domain  

• Hands-on experience integrating, deploying and using communication solutions  

• Expert knowledge of one or more of the following areas - radio, antenna, modems, overall RAN, CN 

• Expert knowledge in AI  

• Knowledge of satcom component systems (payload, ground station, etc) 

• Experience and practical knowledge in developing solutions for end users 

• Proven experience in bid writing and securing funding 

• Extensive experience working on externally funded collaborative projects with external stakeholders  

• Good communication skills (verbal and written English)
