Job Description

Comic Relief’s Technology team is on a mission to deliver the innovative, cutting-edge technology which will make us a truly audience-driven charity, delivering the social change to support our vision of a just world, free from poverty.

Our Engineering team prides itself on using leading-edge approaches to deliver digital products in a secure, scalable and super-efficient manner and we’re looking for a talented front-end engineer to join our sector-leading and highly motivated team and help keep us at the forefront of engineering innovation.

The Senior Engineer (Front-End), will, alongside the Principal Engineer, play a leading role in creating exciting and engaging supporter experiences using modern web frameworks such as React, Gatsby Cloud and AWS Amplify, as well as helping to embed standards and best practice in our development and delivery processes.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Craft outstanding user-focused and data-driven products and services to engage with our supporters and partners.

  • Lead the architecting of front-end platforms, services and products.

  • Vertically own the software stack, providing support to stakeholders when necessary and assuming operational responsibility for engineering systems.

  • Define and embed best practices within the Engineering team, ensuring that all coding and architecture are in line with industry standards.

  • Mentor other Engineers and create a culture of excellence focused on continuous improvement.

  • Actively engage with Open Source and the wider technology community to raise the organisation’s profile to be a top-tier software development organisation.

  • Work across all facets of our engineering stack including, but not limited to, testing stack, internal systems and design.

  • Act as a source of knowledge and experience for the Engineering team and wider organisation.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Commercial experience of production workloads being run and developed using some of the following technologies: React; Gatsby; REST; GraphQL; automated testing; HTML and CSS.

  • Proven ability to create secure and stable digital products and services.

  • Excellent experience of working as part of a team to solve complex technological issues.

  • Proven track record of issue resolution and root cause analysis.

We recognise diversity and inclusion are a source of strength in achieving our mission. We therefore welcome everyone, trusting what makes us different brings creativity, styles and experiences to help us collectively do our best work. That’s regardless of your gender, age, ethnicity, disability, religion, sexual orientation, and cultural identity. We especially welcome those from under-represented groups in modern grant-making and fundraising. We are on a journey, but if you join our team you will be part of a community that is committed to creating a diverse and inclusive environment where we want you to:

  • Be valued for being yourself

  • Do your best work, and be supported to break down barriers so you can succeed

  • Be heard, respected, and treated as an equal, whatever your level, experience or background

  • Be part of a team that is committed to making this happen – with our colleagues, partners, and contributors.

Comic Relief is committed to preventing and protecting all people from harm in their interactions with us. We expect all those that act in our name to uphold our approach to doing no harm.
