About Apolitical

Apolitical is the world’s largest online network of public servants, with a mission to make governments smarter. It is used by half a million public servants and policymakers across 170 countries, providing governments with the tools, skills and networks they need to become more effective and tech-enabled organisations.

Role

The Policy Analyst plays a key role in building Apolitical’s AI-powered tools for policymakers.

This role is for a policy analyst with a technical mindset and approach. You will help turn real-world policy questions into clear analytical frameworks that can be built into AI tools.

This is not an academic modelling role. It is for someone who has worked directly on policy analysis and now wants to build technology that supports better policymaking.

Working closely with Product Managers, Engineers and Researchers, you will ensure that policy assumptions, scenarios and projected impacts are clear, realistic and grounded in how government actually works.

Key Responsibilities

Organisational Impact
  • Help shape the forecasting and analytical features at the core of Apolitical’s AI tools.

  • Ensure projected policy impacts are realistic and credible.

  • Work across teams to turn complex policy problems into structured, buildable product features.

Functional Responsibilities

Policy Analysis and Applied Modelling

  • Estimate the likely impacts of policy decisions before they are implemented.

  • Use applied statistical methods to structure projections, assess uncertainty and test assumptions.

  • Run scenario analysis to explore risks, trade-offs and possible future outcomes.

  • Identify the key factors that influence whether a policy will succeed or fail.

  • Use available data, research and real-world examples to inform projections.

  • Clearly explain assumptions, limitations and areas of uncertainty.

  • Refine models and projections based on new evidence, product testing and user feedback.

Product Integration and Technical Collaboration

  • Translate policy analysis into structured components that can be embedded in AI tools.

  • Work closely with Engineers to ensure assumptions, parameters and scenarios are implemented accurately.

  • Partner with Product Managers to prioritise and improve analytical features.

  • Help determine how assumptions, trade-offs and uncertainty are presented to users.

  • Contribute to clear documentation explaining how analytical features work.

AI Awareness and Responsible Innovation

  • Think actively about how AI tools can support structured policy analysis.

  • Identify practical ways AI can strengthen scenario building and research workflows.

  • Support transparent and responsible use of AI in policymaking contexts.

Competencies

Core skills

  • Strong applied policy analysis skills.

  • Experience using applied statistics to estimate policy impacts or conduct structured scenario analysis.

  • Ability to break down complex policy problems into clear analytical components.

  • Comfortable working with data, evidence and benchmarks to inform projections.

  • Clear written communication skills, particularly when explaining assumptions, trade-offs and uncertainty.

  • Ability to think practically about how analysis translates into product features.

  • Strong judgement when assessing risks, limitations and real-world constraints.

About you

  • Previous experience as a policy analyst is preferred.

  • Experience contributing to policy impact assessments, forecasting or structured scenario analysis.

  • Experience working in cross-functional environments, such as product or digital teams a plus.

  • Familiarity with AI tools, including large language models, and interest in how they can support policy analysis.

  • Demonstrated understanding of how policies are designed, implemented and evaluated in practice.

Don’t meet every single expectation? Studies have shown that women and people of colour are less likely to apply to jobs unless they meet every single qualification. Apolitical is dedicated to building a diverse and inclusive workplace, so if you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyways. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles.

Application Process

Apolitical uses Applied in our recruitment. Applied aims to overcome unconscious bias in recruiting. Instead of using your CV alone, we'll be asking you to answer questions to test skills needed for the role. The answers are then anonymised, and reviewed in a random order by members of our team.

The Applied platform also asks some demographic questions before you start your application.  These answers are never visible to the hiring team and don’t affect your application in any way. We only see summary statistics to help us check if our candidate pool is balanced and if everyone has an equal chance to get hired irrespective of their background. If you prefer, you can easily opt out of answering these questions.

Using AI in your application answers

At Apolitical, we embrace new technologies and encourage the use of AI in our work. However, as AI becomes more prevalent, it can be difficult to distinguish between machine-generated content and the unique perspectives of candidates. We’re excited to see how you use AI tools to structure and refine your answers, but we value your unique insights above all else. Ensure your application reflects your voice and how your skills align with our mission.

Interview

As part of your application, we’ll review your CV and a writing sample. Shortlisted candidates will then be invited to a 30 to 45-minute interview on Google Meet.
