Job Description
Collins, the education and reference division of HarperCollins is looking to hire a new Business Development – Senior Rights and Licensing Manager. As a key member of the Business Development team in Collins, the Senior Business Development Manager will be responsible for developing new rights sales and licensing opportunities across the Collins dictionaries, ELT, education and reference portfolio as well as account management for existing partners. This is a senior role responsible for devising and implementing sales strategy to meet and exceed sales budgets with a focus on digital licensing. This role provides an exciting opportunity for someone looking to broaden their rights experience as part of a small, busy and agile team.
Key Responsibilities
Sell rights across Collins dictionaries, ELT, education and reference lists, focussing on growing the range of partners/revenues internationally with a focus on digital use of content. Customer types to include websites, elearning businesses, app developers, edtech and ereading platforms.
Contribute to department strategy and fulfilment of budgetary targets
Provide sales updates on all territories on a regular basis
Attend Frankfurt book fairs as well as additional sales trips to key territories
Contribute to the acquisition process through market knowledge and revenue projections.
Develop and implement new systems and processes to enable growth
Keep up-to-date with developments in the industry, share experiences and ideas for improvements within the department and the whole company
Undertake admin duties including logging interest, submitting sales material, drawing up contracts, notifying internal departments of sales, completing approvals, adding to sales spreadsheets and databases, arranging shipping instructions, supplying files.
Experience Required
Experience of working in rights/business development in education/non-fiction publishing or with an interest in educational/non-fiction publishing or experience of edtech
Right sales experience to include presenting titles/content to potential customers, creating a new pipeline of opportunities, researching new markets, customer meetings.
Experience of working towards deadlines with the ability to prioritise and manage workload
Skills Required
Presentation and pitching experience.
Negotiation skills
Ability to communicate at all levels, both in writing and verbally.
Word and Excel
Impeccable organisational skills
