Job Description

The Assistant Archivist role will support and develop all aspects of the work of the Company Archive, with a particular focus on the accession and successful management of the Egmont Archive Project, our newly acquired archive collection. The HarperCollin's archive service is responsible for the preservation of the records and history of the company. We provide both a deposit and retrieval service for all Company departments across the UK. This is an exciting opportunity to work with the records of a 200-year-old business and help ensure its longevity. It is also a wonderful chance to be involved in the running of a busy and growing archive department plus overseeing a new project to bring in the records of Egmont Children’s Books.

Core responsibilities

  • Day to day management of the HC Archive Service.

  • Managing the deposit and retrieval of records for all HC employees.

  • Responsible for the archive enquiry service both internal and external.

  • Support of any internal projects including marketing, editorial and anniversaries.

  • Active external outreach.

  • Accession and management of the Egmont archive project.

  • Management of small team.

  • Implementation of appraisal and weeding of new collections.

  • Create and manage when necessary, the comprehensive cataloging of the Egmont archive.

  • Share outcomes of the cataloging function to management and other colleagues as required.

Experience required

  • Masters in Information Management and Preservation (or equivalent qualifications or experience)

  • Demonstrable experience working within an archival setting.

  • Proven experience of managing complex archive cataloguing projects and collections.

  • Extensive knowledge of archival standards and procedures.

  • Solid experience and knowledge of appraisals and weeding of collections.

  • General conservation experience (desirable).
