Job Description
Applied is the platform for unbiased hiring.
We’re pushing back against outdated hiring practices by rearchitecting the process and focussing on skills. We use cutting edge behavioural science, research, and data to build a product with purpose. It removes opportunities for bias, enabling organisations to surface the best candidates and take the guesswork out of hiring.
You can read more about us in the New York Times, Harvard Business Review, TechCrunch, and New Scientist and learn more about how we give Candidates useful feedback here.
The Role
We’re changing the way hiring is done for good and need a Senior Product Manager to work within our product and engineering team, helping Applied on a fast-paced journey.
We have an amazing product - our clients have seen a real improvement in their hiring metrics: 3x improvement in interview to offer rate, 3x improvement in diverse candidates and 66% reduction in time spent on recruitment! We continue to push how hiring can be done fairly in an efficient and predictive way, and this is the opportunity to join us in this mission.
About Our Product and Engineering Team
We’re a team who:
Are passionate about making high quality digital products that add real and meaningful value to people's lives
Can collaborate effectively, inspire those around them, and start from a position of empathy.
Understand the business objectives, the needs of the broader team and work with engineering and commercial to prioritise accordingly.
Are comfortable working in an early-stage environment, and the autonomy and uncertainty that change can bring.
Our Senior Product Manager should:
fall in love with a user need/problem, not with a solution
love using data to guide action (but know that sometimes nothing can beat talking to users)
love collaborating with others to get things done in an agile manner, and be able to mentor others in the team
be able to refine and prioritise a backlog; explaining why decisions are made; and how to plan a roadmap to deliver and achieve business strategy objectives
demonstrates commercial acumen - including competitive landscaping and identifying roadmap projects that lead to growth
be able to communicate clearly (and persuasively when needs be)
The job opportunity
In your first 6 months you'll:
Contribute to defining the product roadmap, working to identify the 'why', 'what' and 'so what'- then working with the team to set scope and deliver working solutions to user needs.
Work with data to analyse what works and prioritise where to start and how to iterate - learning how we use behavioural science to help our clients debias hiring and make better hiring decisions
Make big contributions to our product. You'll be working with design and the engineering team from day one and getting stuck into our scrum process from the very start
Collaborate with stakeholders across the business - collecting feedback and needs from Sales, Customer Success, Support and of course- directly talking to users and conducting research yourself
Shape our process - we love a good retro and continually inspecting and improving how we work is core to how we work as a team
You'll benefit from:
Equity in the business
Wellbeing benefit and access to Spill
Remote working budget
Internet allowance
Learning & development budget
Involvement in other aspects of the business, from strategy, customer onboarding processes and materials, how we communicate product benefits, to shaping team culture
Being part of something that's both commercially successful and socially important
We’re working remotely first and have a small office available in London. Our general aim is to have 2 away days throughout the year so we can all meet in person at least a few times a year.
What are the next steps?
Right to work: We do NOT provide visas so please only apply if you have a right to work in the UK.
*If you've applied to a product role with us within the last 6 months, please wait for at least 6 months before you apply again.*
You’ll answer 3 hypothetical work-sample questions as a first step. None of these are actual projects we are working on or intend to work on, they're meant to assess your approach to a problem and learn what knowledge and skills you have. If you work at Applied, you'll need to search for things, so you can do this during the application, but please don't just generate a chatGPT answer- we can tell, and it's a waste of your time and ours, as you will not be invited to interview.
Your answers will be anonymised, randomised and reviewed by the team. We use these scores to shortlist and invite successful candidates to the next step. We love giving feedback, so at the end you'll see how well you performed at each stage of the application process.
While we aim to keep the role open to applications for at least 2 weeks, we've previously seen very large volumes of applications so the closing date may move up. Try to complete your application and submit it as soon as you can.
