Job Description

4th Estate is one of the most innovative imprints in the publishing industry, with a reputation for producing critically acclaimed and beautifully designed bestselling books.

We made history by publishing Hilary Mantel’s Booker Prize-winning Novels Wolf Hall and Bring Up the Bodies, which made her the first woman and first British writer to win the award twice. We are the home of Pulitzer Prize winners Anthony Doerr and Siddhartha Mukherjee; Costa Award winners Jon McGregor and Rebecca Stott; Women’s Prize winner Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie; and Samuel Johnson Prize-winning authors Lucy Hughes-Hallett and Philip Hoare.

We have a well-earned reputation for publishing some of the finest writers from all over the world. We explore American life with Jonathan Franzen, Annie Proulx, Michael Chabon, Katherine Heiny and Jeffrey Eugenides, and celebrate international literature with Imbolo Mbue, Valeria Luiselli and Yiyun Li. We are proud to champion daring new literary talent in Gabriel Krauze, Lauren Oyler and Inua Ellams.

Our non-fiction authors – Yomi Adegoke, Jia Tolentino, Elizabeth Day, Otegha Uwagba and Raven Smith – influence the opinions and beliefs of readers internationally. Our cookery list is home to the finest names in food writing including Nigel Slater and Anna Jones.  Our office bookshelves teem with classics from essential writers such as J.G. Ballard, Joan Didion, Penelope Fitzgerald, Arundhati Roy and Joyce Carol Oates.
