Job Description
This role is offered on a hybrid contract giving you the opportunity to also work from home three days a week.
Comic Relief reserves the right to close the role early if a large number of applications are received.
Purpose of job:
Bring Comic Relief’s brand to life with bold, creative, and impactful design! You’ll shape and maintain a distinctive visual identity that reflects our personality, values, and mission making sure every piece of design work tells our story with energy and consistency. Evolve and expand our brand toolkits, crafting fresh guidelines and assets that keep our look sharp, modern, and instantly recognisable. As an in house design powerhouse, you’ll create stunning visuals across all platforms campaigns, social media, fundraising, and beyond helping us captivate audiences, spark conversations, and inspire action.
Key responsibilities:
Creative Development & Execution
Designing for impact. Create standout visuals for multi-channel campaigns, including:
Fundraising appeals (email, direct mail, online).
Campaign collateral, bake packs and fundraising packs to inspire participation
Social media content (posts, stories, ads).
Reports, newsletters, pitch decks and printed materials.
Merchandise, event branding, and advertising.
Video assets, moodboards, lower thirds, and storyboarding.
Ensure all designs meet accessibility guidelines and best practices, making Comic Relief’s content inclusive and engaging for all audiences.
Create compelling designs, artwork, and assets for a variety of projects, including marketing campaigns, advertising, branding, printed communications, email, web, and merchandise.
Design of print and digital materials across multiple platforms, from large-scale integrated marketing campaigns to corporate reports and merchandise, ensuring all assets align with accessibility guidelines.
Follow projects from concept to completion: from taking briefs and idea generation through to design development, sign-off, artworking and final delivery.
Collaboration & Campaign Strategy
Work closely with internal teams including copywriters, marketers, and fundraisers to bring campaign ideas to life.
Contribute to creative ideation sessions, identifying opportunities to push design further.
Refine campaign messaging through visuals, ensuring copy and design work seamlessly together to amplify impact.
Confidently present design ideas and rationale to internal teams and stakeholders, articulating how designs align with strategic objectives.
Branding and Consistency
Develop, maintain, and evolve brand guidelines to ensure a cohesive visual identity across all touchpoints.
Ensure all creative assets adhere to brand standards, maintaining consistency across digital and print platforms.
Ensure all projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in line with brand guidelines.
Maintain structured working systems for the Graphic Design team, including folders, job numbers, and filing to ensure efficiency.
Serve as the initial point of contact for all graphic design needs within the organisation.
Innovation & Brand Evolution
Stay ahead of design trends, digital innovations, and branding best practices.
Experiment with new tools, styles, and techniques to enhance visual storytelling and strengthen brand presence.
Balance creativity with strategic thinking, ensuring designs serve their intended purpose while staying on-brand.
Person specification
Essential criteria
Proven track record of working across a range of design projects, from concept to final execution.
Strong portfolio showcasing impactful, consumer-facing design work across both digital and print.
Exceptional typography, layout, and composition skills, with a sharp eye for detail.
Highly competent in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) and proficient in Microsoft Office; familiarity with Figma or willingness to upskill.
Experience designing for social media, marketing campaigns, brand communications, and multi-channel artwork.
Strong ability to switch between print and digital artwork seamlessly, ensuring high-quality execution for both mediums.
Organised and adaptable, able to manage multiple key projects in a at any one time, while setting priorities effectively.
Excellent communication skills, with confidence in presenting ideas and collaborating with marketers, digital teams, and stakeholders.
A creative and strategic mindset, understanding how design influences audience engagement and action.
Ability to work autonomously as the sole in-house designer while also collaborating under direction when required.
Experience in a fluid studio environment, creating, preparing, proofing, and checking print-ready and digital artwork.
Desirable criteria
Motion graphics or animation skills (After Effects, Premiere Pro).
Experience in charity, social impact, or fundraising campaigns.
Knowledge of UX/UI principles and digital-first design thinking.
Experience working within or helping to develop brand identity systems.
