Job Description

Overview of the Opportunities 

  • We have four 12-month paid internship opportunities that are open to young people (aged 18-24).

  • This is a learning opportunity, therefore no previous experience is required.

  • We encourage applications from those from underrepresented backgrounds.

  • We are particularly looking for individuals with a passion to pursue careers in the sporting sector and beyond – in partnership with the Greater London Authority (GLA).

You'll be doing:

As a Cricket for London Intern (C4L), you will join a team committed to changing the image of cricket amongst young Londoners. You will support programmes that connect communities and improve lives by using cricket as a means to: coach life skills; improve employability and get young Londoners, active.

During your 12 months with us, you will have the opportunity to undertake a variety of tasks at various locations, although if you’d like to specialise in one of the areas on offer, we will look to make this happen where possible. That said, we believe that experience in all the opportunities on offer will better enhance your career prospects.

1)     Communications, Marketing & Administration – This is a wide ranging and varied opportunity that will enable you to:

  • Assist various Communications & Marketing teams with a campaign to change the image of cricket amongst young Londoners. You will gain know how on how marketing campaigns work and get involved with creative ideas that encourage young people to engage in cricket for the first time and beyond;

  • Support our charitable cricket foundations with their fundraising and events;

  • Support the development of a new website and learn how to produce exciting and regular social media posts;

  • Visit London’s network of urban cricket hubs, generating case studies and news stories for regular social media reports and monthly newsletters;

  • Support match days in areas such as the guard of honour, mascots, on pitch duties during International, T20, Hundred and 50 over matches throughout the season; and

  • Attend board meetings and networking events to gain experience in minute taking and understanding the role of a junior executive.

2)     Community Cricket Coaching – Even if you have no previous cricketing experience, we will train you to an externally accredited standard so that you are able to help with the delivery of our community cricket programmes. In addition to coaching, you will:

  • Support with booking of the facilities for the C4L programmes;

  • Gain experience alongside the full-time coaching team who are delivering in schools, afterschool hubs and community groups; and

  • Capture participation data to help us understand who we are impacting.

You'll have:

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills as well as being culturally aware;

  • The ability to build and develop trusting relationships with a diverse range of young people; 

  • The motivation and enthusiasm to deliver positive outcomes through cricket;

  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to meet deadlines;

  • An eagerness to learn and further develop themselves; and

  • An ability to work as a team and be prepared to work outside office hours on occasions.

C4L is an umbrella organisation whose purpose is to get Londoners active using cricket. It consists of the ECB (the England & Wales Cricket Board - the national governing body) and the four London based County Cricket Boards:

·       Essex Cricket in the Community

·       Kent Community Cricket

·       Middlesex Cricket

·       Surrey Cricket Foundation

Therefore, any details provided will be shared with all six organisations at later stages of the process, purely for the purpose of recruiting into this role. By progressing with the application process, we will take this as confirmation that you are happy for you information to be shared .

  • The first part of the process is an online application form, which consists of two questions. These questions will help us understand your reasons for applying and how you will use the opportunity to support you in your future career development.

  • Applications will be open until 6pm on 24th January 2024.

  • Candidates’ applications will be anonymously reviewed by 26th January 2024

  • Candidates will be informed if they are successful for an interview by the end of the day on 29th January 2024.

  • We look to hold interviews around the week commencing 5th February 2024 with a view for the successful candidates to start their internships on 4th March 2024.
