Job Description
This is a great opportunity to work across the adult fiction and nonfiction publishing divisions in key foreign language territories as a central member of the Rights team. We are looking for a proactive person with extensive rights experience and the ability to meet and exceed budgets. The role will include working on co-editions as well as licensing and the successful applicant will be comfortable negotiating at all levels as well as with some foreign travel.
Key Responsibilities
Sell translation rights across the adult fiction and nonfiction lists into key territories (to include Asia as well as other territories tbc)
Work with the Head of Rights on renewals and new licenses for CS Lewis adult titles across the world
Negotiate, draft and execute rights contracts
Attend all HarperNonFiction Acquisitions and other divisional meetings and act as a conduit between the division and Rights
Provide projected rights or co-edition figures for each territory to inform acquisition of new projects
Manage subagents in specific markets where appropriate
Attend Frankfurt and London Book Fairs as well as additional sales trips to key territories
Keep up to date with developments in the industry, share experiences and ideas for improvements
Undertake administration including logging interest, submitting sales material, drawing up contracts, notifying internal departments of sales, completing approvals, adding to sales spreadsheets and databases, issuing FPOs, arranging shipping instructions, supplying files
Skills Required
Ability to communicate at all levels, both in writing and verbally
Word and Excel
Impeccable organisational skills
Meticulous attention to detail
Keen negotiation skills
Ability to prioritise and manage workload and deadlines
Awareness of the print production process
