Job Description

This is a fantastic opportunity for a dynamic and talented Production Controller to produce Books for one of the biggest Publishers in the UK.

Reporting to the Fiction Production Manager, the Production Controller will be working within the Group Production team to produce front-list mono titles, reprints and eBooks. 

We’re looking for an experienced individual to produce products within the agreed budget, quality and lead-time requirements. As well as strong organisation and communication skills, we’re looking for someone with a creative spark to make contributions to product development and new publishing concepts with a keen eye for detail. 

Key Accountabilities

  • Control print and digital projects including costing, setting schedules and managing timelines

  • Ensure quality standards are met across pre-press and printer proofs, printing materials and finished copies.

  • Ensure products are produced within budget through estimating and maintaining costs

  • Negotiating with suppliers; presenting accurate final costs and processing invoices.

  • Manage all front-list titles and provide support on book proofs, plus reprints, for two busy mono publishing lists.

 Person Specification

  • Significant work experience within trade book production, including typesetting and print

  • Working knowledge of eBooks

  • Experience of managing multiple projects simultaneously

  • Sound knowledge of technical processes involved in the origination and manufacture of books

 Skills / Competencies

  • Very well organised with excellent attention to detail

  • Excellent interpersonal / relationship building skills

  • Strong IT skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Tools

  • Good numeracy skills and communication skills – both written and oral

  • Commercially aware
