Job Description

This is a designer position within the Design team for the imprint HQM&B. We are looking for someone with knowledge of design systems who is keen to take on a position in which they can learn and grow. The Designer will be responsible for creating fiction and nonfiction cover designs and sometimes marketing materials that relate to the books you design. We are looking for someone who has experience designing book covers in various genres.

Key Responsibilities

  • Designing commercial fiction and non-fiction covers and taking them from concept to print.

  • Being willing to adapt to various genres; from thrillers to self-help, women’s fiction to crime.

  • Creating new, innovative and fresh cover designs that are market leading.

  • Supporting the design team to create a steady workflow.

  • Managing design admin tasks for your titles (e.g. raising PO’s/ licensing within budget).

  • Overseeing the occasional freelance designer.

  • Designing marketing materials; such as advance proof copies of books, print ads, digital ads, social media assets.

Experience and Skills Required

  • After Effects, Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator are all essential

  • A Design Degree / course/ some experience

  • Creative flair and proven experience in designing market leading covers, across various genres

  • Relevant consumer, trend and market awareness

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and to work on tight deadlines when needed.

  • Strong communication skills

  • Ability to carry out picture research and licensing of images

  • A love of design and books

  • Excellent organisational skills

  • Team player
