Job Description

Introduction to the role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Marketing Manager to join the award-winning HarperFiction marketing team on a fixed-term contract.

There has never been a more exciting time to join the team! In this role you’ll be a senior voice in our high-performing marketing team, delivering industry-leading campaigns for some of our biggest fiction books and brands.

Key tasks and accountabilities

  •    Delivering strategic, creative and innovative campaigns for major releases and authors across the division, including major brand fiction authors

  •   Developing innovative, creative and targeted marketing activity including all planning, briefing and delivery – from pre-awareness through to launch and beyond, ensuring that delivery of all creative, media, and plans are on brief and on budget

  • Driving audience development for key authors and brands, working alongside the wider publishing team to develop and deliver on long term strategic goals for brand authors 

  • Line management of a team member – including managing direct report to deliver successful campaigns and drive sales for their allocated areas of responsibility  

  • Delivering effective partnerships with external partners and maintaining effective relationships with ongoing internal stakeholders

  • Effectively communicating marketing campaigns internally and externally

  • Identifying digital marketing opportunities and ensuring the marketing team fully utilises all the tools available to maximum effect within the marketing mix

  • Measuring and evaluating campaigns, sharing learnings and optimising for future activity

  • Working alongside the consumer insight team to understand readerships and inform target audiences

  • Supporting a culture of collaboration and integration, working closely with Publicity, Sales and Editorial to ensure that all stakeholder needs are met

  • Acting as a senior voice in the team, sharing best practice and supporting team members on marketing practices   

Skills required

  • Significant and demonstrable track record of delivering market-leading consumer campaigns for brand fiction authors

  • Demonstrable understanding of the commercial fiction market and book buyer

  • Highly organised and able to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment – managing multiple competing deadlines, prioritising and delegating effectively

  • Experience of direct line management desirable

  • Commercially astute with experience managing budgets, reporting on KPIs and measuring ROI

  • Experience of working collaboratively with senior stakeholders

  • Creative flair

  • Calm under pressure

  • Data-driven and results-focused

  • Team-player, looking to share their expertise with the wider marketing team to foster a culture of shared learning, and who is also comfortable coaching junior members
