Job Description

Contract: 18 months, full-time

Background checks: Due to the nature of the work we do with global governments and partners, all employees are required to pass BPSS verification.

The Role

Apolitical’s high-impact online courses are designed and written by the Course Creation team. You’ll work alongside the team to deliver and maintain this excellent portfolio of courses. The role is an exciting entry point into the world of online learning, GovTech, and social impact.

We’re looking for a fast learner with a flair for research and writing who will work alongside our Learning Designers throughout the course production process. You’ll ensure that our older courses meet our latest best practices, work on tailoring content to specific countries, coordinate uploads, manage files, and liaise with external stakeholders like experts and public servants.

You love learning - whether that’s mastering a new tool or getting up to speed on a course topic. We work across a range of themes, from digital skills to climate training, and we’d expect you to upskill on any topic quickly.

As part of an innovative and fast-paced company, we’ll encourage you to take initiative and work independently. You’ll be the type of person who is meticulously organised and gets satisfaction from keeping projects on track, tweaking content to perfection, seeing processes through, and liaising with a range of internal and external stakeholders.

The Team

Apolitical is a startup of just over 50 people. You would join the Course Creation team, a group of Learning Designers and subject matter experts who report to Learning Design Managers and are overseen by the Head of Course Creation. Course Creation are a lovely bunch, bias aside. We care about our colleagues and are passionate about our mission.

Role breakdown
  • Research and writing

    • Conduct research to gather accurate, up-to-date, and relevant information to include in courses

    • Use editorial guidelines to write engaging copy aligned with Apolitical's brand voice. Craft content that is not only informative but also engaging and enjoyable to read

    • Learn about and apply Apolitical’s course design principles

    • Use the latest team best practices to improve courses that are already on the Apolitical platform

    • Research our target markets and suggest improvements to existing courses which would help us better-engage these audiences

  • CMS management

    • With in-house training, gain proficiency in Contentful and Articulate 360 to oversee the upload and editing of courses. This will include working closely with our remote upload team, overseeing rounds of edits, proofing uploads, and finding fixes to technical challenges

  • Content management

    • Assist in the organisation and management of course content on the backend of our platform and in Google Drive

    • Develop and document processes for content management to improve efficiency and accuracy

    • Help our Learning Designers with calendar management and communications with creative agencies, business partners, and subject matter experts

    • Help run multimedia projects

  • Content design

    • Make improvements and amends to the content of existing courses in our portfolio

    • Proof our courses pre- and post-upload

    • Write small amounts of copy to enhance content

    • Process management and improvement

    • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring deadlines are met and processes are adhered to

    • Develop and implement efficient workflows for content and translation management.

    • Identify areas for improvement and propose solutions to streamline processes.

You'll need
  • Strong research and writing skills — we pride ourselves on our caring, joyful course content. We’d expect you to research and produce elements of our lessons, with help from your manager

  • Strong organisational skills — we need to keep projects on track and deliver courses on time and you will help ensure we do

  • Great communication and stakeholder management skills — you’ll partner with Apolitical staff from across the company, and you’ll liaise with external parties

  • Initiative — you’re a proactive and self-directed worker, quick to understand tasks, and keen to problem-solve

  • To be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment — you’re adaptable and happy to juggle a range of tasks

  • To care about our mission — you’re excited to help us develop innovative online learning content for public servants

  • Curiosity – this role is a great opportunity to receive training and hone organisational, social and pedagogical skills. We don't expect you to have tonnes of work experience, but we do expect you to be eager and willing to learn

Don’t meet every single requirement? Studies have shown that women and people of colour are less likely to apply to jobs unless they meet every single qualification. Apolitical is dedicated to building a diverse and inclusive workplace, so if you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles.
