Job Description

The Role

Harper360 is a global publishing and distribution initiative within HarperCollins. Harper360 is responsible for the distribution, marketing, publicity, and sales of HarperCollins US, Canada, Australia/New Zealand and India titles into the UK marketplace. Established five years ago, the division has had huge successes with non fiction and fiction titles from Mark Manson’s The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck, American Sniper, Dita Von Teese’s Your Beauty Mark, James Murray’s Awakened, Iris Apfel’s memoir, David Mamet’s Chicago, Donna Hay’s cookery titles, Joanna Gaines’ Homebody and a growing young adult list.

The purpose of the role is to plan and execute publicity campaigns for Harper360’s titles, provide key administrative support to the Publicity Director and manage the team intern.

We are looking for a confident team player, with excellent communication and organisational skills and the ability to meet deadlines and multi-task effectively.

Responsibilities, General Department

  • Work closely with the Publicity Director to plan and execute innovative, targeted and integrated publicity campaigns.

  • Negotiating serial deals with national newspapers.

  • Alongside Harper360’s intern, raise POs and log invoices as instructed to ensure departmental budgets are accurate.

  • Plan, implement and attend author events/visits to the UK.

  • Oversee the creation of the PR Catalogue.

  • Manage and mentor the intern ensuring PR and blogger mailing lists and databases are accurate.

  • Ensure Harper360 UK social media accounts are growing monthly, with engaged content and all relevant books featured.

  • Attend regular meetings with Central Marketing to pitch Harper360 titles for promotion.

  • Present titles at monthly key account meetings and quarterly highlights.

  • Liaise with the Press Clippings Agency and Gorkana to co-ordinate publicity coverage.

  • Submit our titles for relevant awards submissions.

  • Respond to general press enquiries within agreed guidelines.

  • Develop in-depth knowledge of publishing and the market place, including competitor activity.

Person Specification.

Experience.

  • Experience of working within a busy publishing publicity team.

  • Working independently to execute creative and innovative publicity campaigns.

  • Experience of young adult/Children’s publishing desirable, but not essential.

  • Experience of negotiating serial deals with national newspapers also an advantage.

 

Skills / Competencies.

  • Excellent communication skills, both in writing and verbally.

  • Established press contacts and experience of Gorkana media database.

  • Well organised and creative.

  • Excellent spelling and grammar.

  • Computer skills: Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Excellent organisational and strong, professional author care skills.

  • Effective at multi-tasking.

  • Able to manage deadlines and work with HarperCollins international offices across time zones.

  • Knowledge of the UK media and commercial awareness of what makes a title successful.

  • Experience of using social media to promote titles and engage with consumers and key stakeholders.

  • Indesign skills.

Disposition.

  • Flexible – able to work evenings and occasional weekends as required.

  • Enthusiasm for books and publishing.

  • Pro-active and highly motivated.

  • Interest in international publishing.
