Job Description

CogCo is looking to appoint an Associate UX Designer.

In this role, you would be expected to support the work we undertake with a range of different organisations, from scaling technology companies and charities, to government departments and large corporations.

You will play an important role in projects as part of a multidisciplinary team, which will include behavioural scientists, data scientists and designers with a range of knowledge, opinions and expertise. As a UX designer, this will often involve you enriching the experiments or other research being undertaken by colleagues.

Your role will be to provide new perspectives, insights and methods from UX design to help improve the user experience of apps, platforms, services and simulated experiments. You might also use the same skills to help develop CogCo’s own product ideas, such as the development of the online version of CogCo’s ‘Behaviour Change Playbook’.

The successful candidate(s) will have a strong background in UX Design. Some examples of work you might be asked to support include:

  • Visualising new or improved, more behaviourally informed, features within an app or platform to present the information, outline the structure and show the user journey.

  • Designing high-fidelity mockups of chosen features to show how they will look within an app or platform when they are finished and go live to the public.

  • Developing prototypes of apps or websites that can be used for online usability testing, using platforms such as Maze.

  • Providing UX feedback on existing apps, platforms or services developed by our partner companies.

  • Conducting research to develop user journey maps and personas for partner companies looking to make changes to an existing service or product.

  • Running workshops or sprints with CogCo colleagues to take forward ideas for our own digital products.

All candidates must be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Experience in a relevant field such as UX Design, Service Design, Product Management, Customer Experience Design, Market Research or Design Research

  • Experience sketching and visualising ideas, concepts or proposed features for a product or service

  • Experience creating low fidelity wireframes and high fidelity prototypes using appropriate software

  • Experience conducting UX research, including usability testing

  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to present findings with Google Slides and digital whiteboard platforms (e.g. Miro).

  • Experience interpreting and adhering to brand guidelines and design systems, and educating others on good design practices.

  • Ability to confidently run workshops and design sprints

  • Ability to deliver work to tight deadlines for client partners

  • Excellent project management skills

The following are desirable but not essential:

  • A strong interest in how psychology or design methods can be used to help change behaviour.

  • Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team, including with people who do not have a design background.
