Job Description
This is an exciting opportunity to join the bright and innovative marketing and brand team of HarperCollins Children’s Books. We are the home to many bestselling household names, such as David Walliams, Michael Morpurgo, Derek Landy, Oliver Jeffers, David Baddiel, Holly Smale, Narnia, Paddington Bear and Judith Kerr. HarperCollins Children’s Books is a fast-growing children’s publisher and the home of blockbuster brands.
The Marketing and Brand Manager will be responsible for the marketing of fiction, picture books, properties and young fiction, across frontlist as well as more established publishing brands. The role will be integral within the Brand, Marketing and PR Team, and work closely with the Sales, Publishing, Design and International teams to develop highly creative consumer and retail marketing campaigns across physical, digital and audio products.
Key tasks and accountabilities
Drive sales of key titles and brands by creating end to end consumer marketing campaigns that achieve impact and cut through
Propose the most successful marketing mix for each title across a range of channels including radio, OOH, print, mobile, social, digital and events
Brief media agencies
Effectively communicate marketing campaigns to key stakeholders
Manage design, production and the stakeholder sign off process in the creation of campaign assets
Support the Children’s publishing team in the acquisition and retention of titles and authors
Clearly demonstrate an understanding of competitors’ strengths and weaknesses and retail trends to ensure continuous competitive advantage
Clearly seek and demonstrate an understanding of our consumers, their needs, motivations and influences and bring them to life for the rest of the Division
Undertake effective analysis of all marketing and brand campaigns, share learnings with relevant colleagues and apply learnings to future strategies
Deliver all marketing initiatives within agreed timelines and to budget
Your first six months
Establish yourself in HCCB Brand and Marketing team
Successfully deliver multiple high profile marketing campaigns
Develop brand strategy to successfully grow author brands
Demonstrate evidence-based evaluation for marketing activity, and develop learnings and recommendations, forming part of ongoing brand strategy
Experience required
Experienced marketing professional with significant consumer marketing experience
Establishing and maintaining relationships and communities
Running advertising campaigns across all media
Managing multiple brand and projects and campaigns simultaneously
Managing marketing / media agencies and suppliers
Managing a range of budgets
Experience of marketing in the publishing industry
Experience of brand management, and devising and implementing successful growth strategies
Skills required
Strong eye for design
Copywriting and copyediting skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Excellent organisational skills
Great attention to detail
