Job Description

PURPOSE

The successful candidate for this role will be responsible with the Director of Legal and Integrity for leading on the ECB’s regulations and policies within the areas of the Legal and Integrity Team and provide advice on regulatory and contentious matters across the business to ensure the ECB meets the highest regulatory standards and is protected from litigation.

YOU’LL BE DOING

  • Providing strategic leadership on regulatory matters and ensuring that ECB rules and regulations are fit for purpose.

  • Providing excellent legal advice to the ECB on regulatory and contentious matters and managing disputes and litigation as required.

  • Drafting of and advising on ECB regulations and relevant policies.

  • Leading on policy decisions in the areas of anti-corruption, anti-doping and discipline.

  • Leading on preparations for Regulatory Committee meetings and ensuring all papers are provided as required and actions are followed up.

  • Ensuring that the ECB is seen as a capable and progressive regulator, delivering high levels of integrity and regulation.

  • Implementing and managing regular progress meetings with functional areas within the Integrity Team to track activities, milestones, risks and issues.

  • Leading by example, directing and supporting other members of the team where appropriate.

  • Ensuring accountability for performance.

  • Interacting with stakeholders on regulatory matters.

  • Managing the budget for this area.

  • Effectively assessing and managing risks to the ECB.

  • Providing legal support on commercial and non-contentious matters where required.

YOU’LL HAVE

  • Qualified as a solicitor with substantial knowledge of English law (and the authorisation to work as a solicitor in England and Wales).

  • The ability to provide excellent legal advice in a practical manner.

  • Experience of regulatory matters (not necessarily within sport) including regulation setting.

  • A strategic mind and an ability to be creative whilst initiating, leading and implementing change.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and excellent attention to detail.

  • Ability to multi-task, manage several projects and exercise effective judgment whilst remaining calm and professional.

  • The ability to manage people and have excellent inter-personal and team working skills. Proven ability to form and work successfully in partnerships both internally and externally, gaining consensus en route.

  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral).

  • Experience of sports law (highly desirable).
